Relegation a real threat. Time for change

Really looking like a tight end to our 2019 campaign. At the start of the year I liked the look of our recruits mixed with dependable existing personnel but now realise we are no where near a mid table side with an odd top 4 scalp.

Yr 1 diskins probationary period. Inherit previous coaches players and culture.

Yr 2 experience of being a head coach in championship should be motoring. Mistakes learnt from. Comfortable surroundings with an element of trust. Own players. Own systems.

Yr 3

'Shaw cross juniors, Birkenshaw, Mirfield, Heckmondwike Panthers, Stainland Stags and then the Heavy woolen donkeys... WARDY, STOZZA, GT, KARL OR KEAR MUST OF DROPPED A DIGIT FROM MY MOBILE NUMBER! :clapping:

Tried to post a poll but got nowhere. Anyone able to?

1. Get rid even now (we don't sack coaches)

2. Allow a coaching fizzle out come autumn- let matt know he won't be retained as soon as we are mathematically safe

3. 4th year may be the one we see an improvement. Who else is there to come in that's wise enough but affordable

Save it 9' oller, waste of breath....you're only repeating what's been said time and time again by loads of folk. The amount of notice tgat getsctaken, they'll probably give him another 3 year contract.

phildog, everybody is entitled to their option's and surely if a person wants to set a poll up there should be some mechanism to do so.

Yes you could well be right that no notice is taken, but people must have a release valve.

But maybe those who sit on the fence have now had their fill.

Price increase and product quality goes South. The "hard-core gets smaller" those who attend no longer look forward to it but habit/ sense of duty.

We certainly know matt isn't a kear type motivator or possesses his experience. We do however feel it's his way or the highway and feels nothing about being liked/ alienating paying loyal supporters of 10/20/30/40/50 years!

His antics in Toulouse and blackpool scream of immaturity and disrespect.

He doesn't even deserve to be in the same paragraph as kear, Harrison, Thornton, storey, ward etc..

Roger, wasn't suggesting 9' roller forget the poll, just that his voice, along with loads of others, is a noise in the wilderness. Which is what The Mount will become....

Both Batley & Dewsbury have excellent Chairmen (Nicholas & Sawyer) but they do both show tremendous patience / loyalty to their (often) under-performing Coaches............. For what it's worth, I think you need to stick with Diskin for the rest of this season now..... Your team HAS produced some decent performances and you just need to find some of that form again..... Hopefully NOT against us Rams.

Someone new at this stage could prove disastrous........ Rochdale haven't really improved have they ???

I don't want to see either of the Heavy Woollen teams relegated,so here's hoping that both avoid the drop AND you guys turn over Sheffield and have a day out to remember at Wembley !!!

That’s not really the choice here.

Come what may now, we are almost certain to have a season where we either a) narrowly miss being relegated or b) get relegated. Not a great outcome for the third year under this coach. Sacking him now wouldn’t achieve much without a ready made replacement. Holding him accountable at the end of the season would be normal in any other environment.

Linners is the fans favourite

But is the lad ready??

Championship 1 is a totally different competition as Greenwood is finding.

Is Lingard ready to step up only big kev can decide that appointment.

Every appointment is a gamble as the standard in the championship is very high and a new inexperienced coach could crash & burn.

Linners will be coach at some point that's a fact...

I'd bring him in first as a support coach to learn from a more experienced coach

He did that under JK. Then he went to Keighley to learn what is was like to be the one who made the final decision/had the last say.

Linners is certainly not the answer to our coaching situation. If we were to change the coach, we need somebody who makes it less comfortable for the Board and asks questions that need to be asked relating to recruitment , budgets, etc, and has a significant impact in these areas. It has certainly reached the stage where 'treading water' is not giving us the motivation or momentum to compete as a top six team in Championship, despite excellent efforts in our off field activities re. sponsorship boxes  etc. I do sincerely hope that we can reach Wembley, for all concerned at the Club, but a complete  rethink/restructure of the on field and tactical/motivational side of our operations is drastically needed.

As pointed out elsewhere, a top 6 finish isn't the normal outcome for Batley (4 times in the last 13 years) so why should it be different this season?

Why would Lingard want to ruin his legend reputation?

A coach with connections tough motivational skills and knows the league we won’t be far off and batley’s aim for the top 6... batley have been a championship club since day one and have been in the top 6 a few times now...

Linners has already been no2 to an experienced coach....not strong enough to stand up to a board? Ask Keighley!! Not that I'm advocating appointing him tomorrow, but with his heritage here, he knows what works for Batley, where the strengths have always been playing wise and has the respect of the chairman as witnessed by his comments in Ron's Lounge pre Eagles game. We're unlikely to ever attract another coach with Kear's pedigree, but could do worse than Lingard, just saying. At least, in my opinion, he'd have more respect, therefore response, in the dressing room.

Over the last 20 years your average league position has been 7/8th (7.8) with 6 finishes (30%) below that and 6 in the top 6 (again 30%) so you're probably right that top8 is your club's ambition.

...although you have ended up in the bottom division and (unlike Fev) shown yourselves to be the 'strongest' team by supporting all the other clubs above you ?

FWIW over the last 20 years Fev's average position has been 5th (av 5.3) with 6 finishes below and 7 above.

Come 2020 it will be all about budgets again, as always. You may have to cut your cloth even closer next year which would be a challenge for any coach, either the one in possession or anybody new. Not an easy position for many Championship clubs.

Also, I would disagree that your squad was top six quality. Age has been catcing up with a couple recently and this weakens the team considerably.

When you "start new topic" you should see two tabs at the top of the window, one of which says "poll". Just click on that.
