There is a wider trend of letting motorists off with a slapped wrist combined with a known occurrence that women tend to get lighter sentences. Not good. At the very least the judge should have been reprimanded and been made to go on an equality course. You cannot have a judge making statements like that and for nothing at all to be done about it. I'm sure most of us have the suspicion that men and women are sometimes treated differently by the courts, but that's not easy to prove and therefore you can't really sanction a judge when you're not sure.
