Is it a big thing handing over a trophy ? Get a Royal who’s got a free day who’s not remotely bothered , or a RL big wig . Why not do something different , get some publicity which we’re crying out for ,someone who’s won a WC - a tiny minority in this country , maybe an ashes winner by then , and has links to the game ? Andrew was at the cricket but looked bored stiff, probably pining for a round of golf. Anne only does union. Edward has disappeared into a black hole somewhere. Its hardly a new novel idea though getting a sportsman, we had Steve Redgrave presenting the Challenge Cup as well as the Brownlee brothers. All of these achieved considerably more, on multiple occasions and over a number of years, in truly global competitions. Despite this I must have missed the huge upsurge in publicity after these events. More people know Ben Stokes for his off field scuffle and court case than what he has done on it and he was just one individual in a team sport. Don’t get me wrong I’m not his biggest fan either but he has a far higher profile than any British RL player and it’s not all down to the court case.
