Why not is hardly a ringing endorsement, neither is his Dad coaching Workington.

Is it a big thing handing over a trophy ? Get a Royal who’s got a free day who’s not remotely bothered , or a  RL big wig . Why not do something different , get some publicity which we’re crying out for ,someone who’s won a WC - a tiny minority in this country , maybe an ashes winner by then , and has links to the game ? We can and do look for reasons not to do something different ... why the heck not though .

Charles doesn't appear to do sport. Andrew was at the cricket but looked bored stiff, probably pining for a round of golf. Anne only does union. Edward has disappeared into a black hole somewhere. Forget Liz and Phil if it doesn't involve horses. I bet the patron of the RFL isn't available or has been asked either.

Maybe the view that it isn't a big thing is part of the trouble, it should be a big thing. Its hardly a new novel idea though getting a sportsman, we had Steve Redgrave presenting the Challenge Cup as well as the Brownlee brothers. All of these achieved considerably more, on multiple occasions and over a number of years, in truly global competitions. Despite this I must have missed the huge upsurge in publicity after these events. More people know Ben Stokes for his off field scuffle and court case than what he has done on it and he was just one individual in a team sport. If we must go down that route at least aim for the England Cricket captain and not just another player.

He’s a ‘ non entity ‘ ? Ridiculous . God knows how you work that out

Strange you replied to this and not my reply to you which showed you were talking nonsense. To many he is a nonentity, few have even heard of him and those that have have done so for the wrong reasons or are Cricket fans and/or strangely besotted Cumbrians. You disagree and that's fine.
