Wiltshire Rhino
I've been thinking about this a bit more and I've come to the conclusion that The North is Yorkshire and ONLY Yorkshire. Here's why - before you get to Yorkshire you are in the Midlands. When you've passed Yorkshire you're in the North East. If you travel up the M6, past the Midlands you're in the North West. So Yorkshire is The North. Everywhere else is not The North. I can't see why anyone could disagree with that 2014 Challenged Cup Winner

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly. We're categorized as East Midlands, yet, two miles up the road, we have Doncaster post codes, but still in Nottinghamshire County Council wards. For anyone who knows the A1, we are close to the Clumber Park turn off. Worksop, a nearby town, displays every trait of a former South Yorkshire pit town. Recently, there were moves to consider merging the Bassetlaw District it serves with an enlarged Sheffield Super- District. Those plans were scuppered pretty quickly. I think where the M18 meets both the A1 and the M1, it is fair to suggest that The North has most definitely begun! Manton (Worksop) was the last mine I worked at (1993), when they said it was closing I knew it was time to move out of the industry, at the time it was the second biggest producing mine in the country with years of reserves left. But on topic I love the North and even the other day when I came across a Bradford accent from a Muslim Woman it took me back. But tugging on my heart strings doesn't disguise the warts an'all. She didn't think I had much of an accent, me Mam was proud I talked nice and everyone down here thinks I've a broad one. That's the North, sort of like singing about Blackburn to the tune of the hills of Connemara! 2 warning points Non-Political

I mean it is tongue in cheek but I do know exactly what you mean. Its a shame really because I think us northerners are actually very similar to our Welsh, Scottish, Irish and South westerly cousins in that we all don't like London and the home Counties types but by virtue of being English we get lumped in with them. For the 2013 WC opener in Cardiff me and my family were drinking in a pub in the city and the very Welsh landlord then said he preferred when the English League boys came to town rather than union as they tended to stay and socialise whereas he got the impression many of the union lot couldn't wait to leave in their range rovers! I think that demonstrates that divide quite well. There's a great map on the internet also showing a north south divide by locations of Greggs (much more in the north) vs numbers of Waitrose's (much more dense in the south).
