Ben Westwood to retire

Recommended Posts

At the end of the season. Heck of a career.

He has pulled on the Wire jersey 441 times, including five Challenge Cup finals and three Grand Finals with Warrington. He has scored 128 tries and 83 goals.

His International career has seen him represent England on 27 occasions including the 2008 and 2013 World Cups.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

One of the best English forwards in the SL era.

I suspect if there was one forward who opposition players didn't want playing on the other team it probably would have been him. Was an absolute machine in his prime (which remarkably was probably late 20s and early 30s)

Wish him well in retirement. Its a shame seeing the early SL stalwarts retire as they've given so much to the game.

One of those players who perhaps wasn't the most naturally gifted, but who made the most of what talent he had through his commitment and attitude.  Incredibly tough and gave 100% of himself in everything. At his best he was one of the best back rowers in the game.

A fantastic career. I hope Warrington can win at Wembley now and send him out on a high.

Good luck to him in retirement.

He always had the respect from Australian fans whenever we were up against him.

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

Wouldn’t winning the grand final at OT be a better send off?

It could be their year.

Well yes it would. But since Hull are still bidding for that themselves I can't say I hope Warrington win it.

Is he going to be playing again this season? Haven't seen him on the teamsheet for a while................

Possibly. He’s just about fit again after a calf injury.bear in mind that he was 38 a few days ago. Not a bad return for a £60,000 fee, 18 years great service.

One of those players you hate when your team plays against him, but you’d have him in your team at any time.

Tough, uncompromising and can also play a bit

Though he might go round 1 more year in the championship with his home town club, Wakefield.

Good luck to him. Hope he stays healthy and enjoys his retirement. A tough way to earn a living.

I remember when Toronto announced a team and i went onto you tube to watch the sport a bit...didn't know much about it.  I watched a game that Westwood played in and I really liked his style on the field...got hooked.

Good luck to him.
