Wakefield could go down having never been bottom

Recommended Posts

If Wakefield get to the last game of the season level on points with London, they could get relegated having never been in bottom place.

Obviously it would need a series of results to happen but would be very unusual. The Hull KR v Wakefield game is huge. Has that sort of thing happened before?

Well, in thst scenario they would finish in bottom place...

I think they're done. London seem to pick up points when they need to and Wakefield are in free fall.

Well effectively they would be relegated at the final hooter etc. You knew what I meant 🙂

If Wakefield lose their last 4 games they are down regardless

Take saints out of the league and the closeness is amazing at the top and bottom.

Which game do you think they will win? Rovers away, Wigan at home or Warrington away?

If they don't win any of those, it'll come down to the last game of the season and points difference won't even matter as they'll be on the same. It'll be winner takes all.

This assuming of course that London don't win their next 2 games.

True, just being a pedant. It's a bad habit.

And if it does come down to the last game, how have Wakefield got on in their previous fixtures against London this season? 🤐

London wont win there next 2 games so all Wakey have to do is beat London in the last game of the season. Job jobed.

London keep winning when they have to. They did so last year too. People forget they were written off for the top four with 3 to play last season.

Look what happened...

Leeds - London (a), Salford (h), Warrington (h)

Wakefield - Rovers (a), Wigan (h), Warrington (a), London (h)

Huddersfield - Cas (h), Hull (a), Saints (a), Catalans (h)

Rovers - Wakefield (h), Catalans (a), London (h), Salford (a)

London - Leeds (h), Rovers (a), Wakefield (a)

If those fixtures in bold are won, all teams could be on 20 points before Round 29!

Leeds would be safe because of their points difference and the fact London and Wakefield play each other (unless it goes down to a draw after ET).

Still too close to call.

But then it has nothing to do with Wakefield's superior points difference.

For what it's worth, I can't see Wakefield losing at home to London.

My main concern with London, if they do stay up, is whether they can build on what they've achieved this year. They haven't announced any signings of note have they?

Quite the opposite: they're losing a few (presumably in anticipation of going back down).

The lost by 18 compared to Huddersfield (20) and Leeds (20)

So to answer, no they wouldn't.

Yes. Which would make prudent financial sense. The advantage they have, though, if someone else goes down, presumably they'd be looking to offload quite a few quickly. Broncos would probably be best placed to pick them up, being a long, long way below the cap. And some way below their wage bill for this year.
