Perez insists there are ‘no stumbling blocks’ with Ottawa – and hits out at expansion critics

Recommended Posts

Eric Perez has stressed that while it is not impossible for Ottawa to still enter the league structure in 2020, there is no rush and no worries if they have to wait an extra year. Speculation is mounting that Perez’s relocation of Hemel Stags may now not be finalised until the start of the 2021 season, something the man himself…

He's lying when he says they are juniors playing RL. All that's popped up is one junior RL club the griffins. It's not full contact the kids play tag rugby(league rules) against each other and they are planning on playing union clubs in touch rugby(union rules of course) soon because they don't have anyone else to play in league. Unless he's talking about the juniors playing rugby union then I know we've got a serious problem cause now perez is bragging about growing the rival code to a league magazine.

He's not lying at all when he says there are juniors playing the game.I would think at this stage of development there are not many and you would not expect  it to be otherwise.Give the guy a chance its  early days in Canada. At least he got Toronto up and running.

"Touch rugby (union rules of course)" LOL newsflash, it ain't union rules, its basically RL. 'Touch union' doesn't exist but in name only. It's just as silly as saying 'wheelchair rugby union' exists when they use a round ball & it resembles basketball. Union just doesn't translate into any other variation other than its dull 15 a side version.

Yes Touch is League without the tackling but be careful the last thing this needs is for Eric Perez to be moved to C C rubbish.

There are some funny reactions to Eric Perez and TWP for that matter. In days yore such reactions were only for the enemies of League and now we seem ready to burn all our friends and supporters at the stake. And not only that we can spend a little time justifying it. It could be a result of the rules and the cross code zone that means the pent up anger has nowhere to go, or maybe everyone is happier being angry from Manchester nowadays.

There is zero juniors playing rugby league in GTA. They've got one youth club playing touch football against each other that's it. It's been 3 years and participation hasn't grown in GTA these are the facts. I know ORL has to compete with union, gridiron and all the other sports that are being played in the winter spring season but let's not pretend that participation is growing. Overall there was more rugby league being played in GTA years ago than there is now even with the pack there!

Touch football is it's own separate sport. The same way rugby union and rugby league are two separate sports.

Yes them working with the rival code is annoying  but then again understandable they need the union fans for survival to buy merchandise and go to games. But also Perez pretending everything is ok when it's not is annoying.
