Super League Team of the Decade - would it live with the NRL team

NRL have announced theirs.

Some obvious picks imo are Sam Tomkins at FB, Roby at Hooker, Chris Hill and Peacock at prop (although I preferred Jamie as a 2nd row), SoL at LF, Remi Casty would get a look in on the bench maybe, Ryan Hall LW.  James Graham.

Elliot Whitehead was outstanding for a couple of years as was Selb Taia at Cats.  Gas Hick, Westwood.

Senior, Shenton was electric for a while  at Centre.

McGilvaray, Josh Charnley, but then Joel Moneghan was a prolific scorer.

Halfbacks are difficult too.  In sensible mode Danny Brough, Gale then who?

1. Tomkins

2. Charnley

3. Hardaker (they stuck Hayne as a winger, had to squeeze him in as a MOS)

4. Carmont

5. Hall

6. Brough

7. Gale

8. Hill

9. Roby

10. Peacock

11. Ellis

12. Bateman

13. O’loughlin

Only picked Brough and Gale in the halves because they won MOS.

Well if the NRL haven't chosen James Graham I think we should.

Really he should  be in both teams so he should be I'm at least one.

The Aussies would never agree but Roby, Lockers, Hall in his prime and definatly Peacock could have got into the NRL team.

1. Sam Tomkins

2. Tommy Makinson

3. Matt King

4. Kallum Watkins

5. Ryan Hall

6. Lee Briers

7. Kevin Sinfield

8. James Graham

9. James Roby

10. Jamie Peacock

11. John Bateman

12. Bennie Westwood

13. Sean O Loughlin

There's my pick. Some make it in by a scrape in terms of just the beginning of the decade like Matt King. Others in there when 'on true form.' Didn't enjoy displacing Sinfield to no.7 - but as an organiser and thinker couldn't leave him out, with a maverick like Briers at no. 6 to compliment the halves.

I doubt the Superleague team would get within 30 points,,that NRL side looks something special.

Yeah, I thought that. Maybe not so high a score but it would’ve been tough.

I forgot Makinson who’s speed would trouble any team. I don’t rate SoL now but he was a very good player at one time and we sometimes forget how good some of these players were.

Ablett over Watkins

Ablett seemed to score regularly around 2012-14ish years but they were also peak years for KW.

At first look and after Oliver mentioned Dream team choices I find it really difficult to select a team at all.  Mine would be:

Hardacre.

Makinson, Carmont, Gidley, Hall.

McGuire, Burrow

Graham Roby Peacock

Ellis Westwood

O’Loughlin

I think that backline would stand up.  Hall and Makinson would worry any defence.  Carmont very underestimated and Gidley was superb.

Half backs were a very good partnership with 2 additional pivots in SoL and Graham, as he played then.

Roby best I’ve seen.

Peacock and Westwood supreme competitors.

3 decent kickers, which imo is key.

It gets difficult when you think of all the great players we have had in the last decade. You could probably name a couple of teams.

1. Tomkins

2. Makinson

3. Watkins

4. Gleeson

5. Hall

6. McGuire

7. Long

8. Morley

9. Roby

10. Peacock

11. Ellis

12. Hock

13. O'Loughlin

14. Graham 15. Westwood 16. Hill 17. Newton

Shows how few really exceptional overseas players we've had in SL over the past ten years. Not many foreign players in those lists but if you did the same thing for a 2000-2009 team you'd likely have a few more.

Why does everyone rate Watkins? Yes he has been a good player but he is not the best centre from the last 10 seasons, not even half the player Keith Senior was.

NO

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

The 6 and 7 are ordinary. McGuire could not compete against the best in the game.

Briers? ? you are making a joke surely.

Tomkins called in with a sick note for the second year of his contract after he did little but pass the ball to someone else in his first year, went home early because it was all to hard for him.

The Centers are an NRL retiree pension grabber and a castoff that no one in Australia remembers his name.
