Newspaper coverage of CC Final

Recommended Posts

I read the Times - there is no mention or build up to tomorrows game - taking into account the Times doesn't cover RL hardly, but is this due to no pre match 'stories' being put out by clubs or RL or pure bias? What's the situation in other papers?

I don't usually read printed media (too passé ) but if coverage is sparse its mainly due to the association football season just starting .

Another good reason for moving the CC Final to July .

Decent bit in the Metro (London version) today, with LMS's London connection being the story. Says he has about 90 friends and family coming so he's doing his bit to boost the attendance!

Also a small bit about the final moving to July.

It's a bit of column A and a bit of column B.

This weekend we're competing with a full round of Premier League football and The Ashes test at Headingley for back-page coverage. I don't think you can argue a media bias that RL isn't earning column inches against those.

That said, we need to make it easy for journalists to talk about RL - particuarly when there are fewer RL journalists around. Both Warrington and St Helens have PR and media managers - the question to be asked is how many stories were they pushing to the media, how easy were they making it for journalists to access the players, etc?

And just as I type that, I read that Warrington have banned the media from their "open" training session.

The Daily Express (which I got a free copy of in Folkestone so was a Southern edition) had a full page on Widnes being in the 1895 final yesterday, my jaw nearly hit the floor but it was superb to see.

It is a bit sparse. I've had a look around for some articles and they are mainly same sources.

To give a shameless plug, my blog in my signature has collated a few of the media articles available!

IMO the best papers for Rugby League are the Daily Mirror and The Star and are both good for crosswords as well

Agree in the mirror - there is a copy where i work every day, nearly always a page of league every day 👍

PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF http://www.rugbyleaguecares.org/ and http://www.walesrugbyleague.co.uk/article/8790/join-team-wales-for-2013

Predictions for the future -

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG

Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT

Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG

Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

I promise to pay 10 to the charity of Bomb Jacks choice if Widnes Millionaires finish above the battling underdogs Crusaders RL. I OWE A TENNER!

The Morning Star is usually good for RL , I’ve not seen today’s edition but I’ll be staggered if there’s nothing about the final in tomorrow’s edition .

Are the crossword easy? If so, then I'll buy one.

Follow up - Coverage in Times today 'Challenge Cup Final St Helens vs Warrington  Wembley Stadium 3.0' - seriously, that is it. Although there is a third of a page blurb on 'How to Climb'

And the i. It took a dip when Dave Hadfield "left" but has come back strongly this year.

Decent coverage of the CC build up

Unfortunately, that was just online and not in print

Wrong, northernmouse.

My paper edition of the Times yesterday had the Chris Irvine piece centred on his interview with James Roby; I read it over breakfast yesterday.  Being in Wiltshire, I no doubt get a southern edition, if, indeed, there is such variation.  I would be very surprised if any separate northern edition did not carry that piece too.

Today's Sunday Times has a full match report, also by Irvine.

Weird, Definitely not in my paper - perhaps there is an early edition for the North - often results for evening games do not appear. I do remember getting papers before midnight in London and these were different editions to later ones
