Finally some movement.

Hopefully something is announced before Xmas. It would be a good Xmas present for rl fans and good way to end the year with a positive news story.

Looking forward to see how they build over the year ahead if they are given the green light.

Interesting. SBW signing for the Wolfpack means NY has, according to Mr Wilby, "confidence that we can legitimately have a crack at some of the biggest names in world sport". This apparently includes Benji Marshall, Todd Carney and Jamayne Isaako. Putting aside the fact that Benji will be 36 before NY even enter League 1, some of the names mentioned are hardly "some of the biggest names in world sport".

I think Benji Marshall running around League 1, even at 36, would be quite big news

That's the spirit. Why talk the sport up when we can talk it down.

Who's talking the sport down? I was simply commenting on the fact that the list of players in that article could hardly be described as "some of the biggest names in world sport" as Mr Wilby refers to.

To League One clubs they would be.

It takes wisdom to know when a discussion has run its course.

It takes reasonableness to end that discussion.

Todd Carney would certainly make a splash.

They won’t be signing the biggest names when they’re in L1, it’s all comparative.

i cant see new york ever working.  the situation seems different in canada.  its been amazing how quickly the wolfpack have been accepted in toronto

The RFL and SL have put numerous barriers up to expansion...the only reason the Wolfpack have kept going is the goodwill and motivation of Argyle.  The RFL and SL need to get their act together...they have put further expansion at risk.

100 percent.  if ten years ago anyone suggested toronto would have a professional rugby league team they wouldve been laughed at.

and now they do

When it comes to expanding a sport the league itself decides it wants to expand, sets a fee and then sits back to see who wants to come in.

In this case Perez and Argyle turned up at the door pretty much uninvited and asked to come in. The RFL caught by surprise said yes, and they've pretty much been making it up as they go along ever since.

But it's going on 5 years now. TWP are established, successful and aren't going away. It's high time the people who run the game make them welcome and work together to grow the game instead of continuing to make things difficult.

SBW is probably the best import signed in super league.

toronto have managed to sell league 1 and championship rugby league.  this is something clubs that have been around for over 100 years cant do

clubs think just because the game is attractive they dont need to worry about the game day experience

i wish nrl clubs would copy what they have done

I assume the meeting took place last week, any news as to it’s outcome?

''Laurie Daley, the rugby league champion, has been included in a preliminary hit list of coaches to control the fledgling New York franchise.

Inclusion ''is expected to be formally approved by the RFL within the next fortnight''.

''Officials plan on formally launching the new club in Newark, New Jersey, in late January or early February next year''.

Thanks for that Omott. It’s astonishing that the news has broken in an Australian publication but seems not to have reached the ears of the UK press.
