It does make you wonder at the logic of a native of Bury with strong links to the club , putting money and media profile into a non league club in Salford

Why not Bury FC ?

Natives, rather than the singular. Two natives who’s father has a stand named after him and who’s mother has worked at the club for 30 years.

But at least they understand irony...

As a lifelong Bolton fan, I’m quite frankly bricking it.

The only way for this to work and be sustainable is for a Bolton W or Bury, RLFC with an attached football side/team of the same name with investors etc.

Neighbour just mentioned that Sky Sports channel were doing a "countdown clock " this afternoon for Bury and Bolton going bust, treating it like some New Years Eve countdown.  Apparently they took a bit of stick for doing it.

Edit - found a pic -

The RFL have a lot of funding streams available, a lot of rich owners involved and more money than we think.

If that's the case they disguise it brilliantly, and it would be the only thing that they can do well?

I thought there would be a que of Wakey or Bulls fans outside Gigg lane, spanner's in hand, following the example of Fev waiting to dismantle the stands and ship 'em back down the M62 to improve their ground's with!  Bolton's might prove a tad more difficult to dismantle but surely the pie munchers would like a home of their own again????

Its a terrible situation for both clubs and shows what can happen to any sports club. The Bolton situation is complicated with historic loans, secured debts etc. Also issues with the profitibility of the hotel there. Ultimately, and although alot of owners are not in it for the money,  clubs do need to be run as businesses. Lots of owners of sports clubs are poor (or failed) businessmen.

As I said could happen to any club though. Liverpool were days from going to the wall when Hicks and Gillet were owners. Just look at the contrast now with FSG in charge.

In a rugby league context turnover etc is alot smaller but the same principles apply. There's been a few clubs struggling in recent years but hope that we don't see similar situations to Bury and Bolton

In RL we just pretend it didn’t happen ie Bradford Bulls going bust then starting again in the Championship with same players, stadium, colours and history as if nothing ever happened

Whoever dismantles it... could they make sure that the in goal areas are deep enough?

Although I appreciate it is 99% likely to be unfeasible, it could be a great RL national stadium! Would hope we have at least had a speculative look.

Challenge would be filling it with events ... CC Semi-Finals, 2x Internationals per year, WCC, Magic, 9s? That could be 6 events!

Nottingham Outlaws Rugby League

Harry Jepson Winners 2008

RLC Midlands Premier Champions 2006 & 2008

East Midlands Challenge Cup Winners 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008

Rotterdam International 9's Cup Winners 2005

RLC North Midlands Champions 2003 & 2004

As I said before. The RFL and SL should buy Bolton's stadium. It's a good size for some of the 2nd tier showpiece games and would give us a base to create new events.

So SL tell their clubs to give up £30m to buy a white elephant or a skint RFL to borrow said amount on  little equity and soon to be zero Sky cash. Two tens anyone

£30m? you're having a laugh arent you? It only cost £25m to build 20 years ago and it has no value outside of Bolton wanderers or what someone like the RFL could create.

I’d suggest that a site adjacent to a motorway junction, a direct rail line to Manchester and next door to one of the biggest retail parks in Europe would be of quite some value to a lot of developers.

There is a lot more complications when they have to knock down a stadium to do anything with it.

It was classified as an ACV a couple of years ago but all that does is offer the chance to match the cost of any other bids - nobody is going to bid on behalf of a club that doesn’t exist.

It seems that 43 of the 51 companys the Bury owner,Steve Dale, has been associated with, have encountered financial problems.

I trust SL and the RFL urgently review their fit and proper persons clause but have little faith in either of them being pro active over anything. Both organisations seem to wait for a problem to occur, then run around like headless chickens.

The RFL turnover somewhere between 20 and 30m a year. The game isnt as broke as it pretends it is.

Turnover's kind of irrelevant to how much money you actually have to buy stadiums.
