Little York.  Anything is possible.

Indeed , good spirit and no little skill shown by York today

Game hinged on a poor pass by York funnily enough , ball went to ground Brown moved up looking to close down the York player picking it up , he stepped Brown and went through the gap and on to score

Looks like 5th for us now

I expected over 10k for their last game at the odsal. Glad they won it. Do they still have a shot at the playoffs?

Nope their largely full time squad not good enough this year

sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward

If Fev beat Toulouse ( and Fev are on fire ATM ) we would have to beat Toronto to finish 4th although Toulouse probably do need to win to retain 2nd

Fev are on fire? Toulouse are on a 6 match winning run and most definitely are on fire. Should be a very close game!

Very well deserved victory for York at Leigh overall they were the better team I was really impressed with there skill level and attitude, Leigh came out in the second half all gun's blazing in both attack and defense and were well worthy of their lead, but they could not keep up that effort and to their credit York never gave in and came back stronger of the two teams, as I said early on in this thread I would be happy to see a competitive contest whatever the result, I was not disappointed and came away from the ground satisfied with the fare on show.

Along with London, irrespective of where they finish, York really are the suprise team of this year, I won't say overachievers as the the style of rugby and commitment they show deserves success, and to keep producing it in the face of teams with full-time player's over a full season is outstanding?

Are you blaming Brown for the defeat Gubby? Why single him out there was many mistakes made in the ranks which put Leigh on the back foot and lead to York scores.

Without him I think we would have been well beaten, clearly a player with much more class than we have seen at Leigh for a very long time, he made more telling passes, made more tackles and took the line on more times in this one game than his half back partner Woods has done in all the games he has played this season.

Not blaming him at all , I've often said that when a ball hits the ground from a wayward pass it results in the defensive line being broken , it's natural for the nearest defender to push forward leaving a gap behind him , this time it worked out for York

Overall I was disappointed with Leigh's reserved play , I don't recall a single offload , yes I know the clever thinking in poor conditions is to keep it simple and hunt the mistake , but even in decent conditions in other recent games we seem to just play 5 drives and a play/kick

Kevin Brown was by far the best Leigh player out there, kept getting the ball to a Leigh centre on the left side in space who was never able to get it to his winger - either due to scrambling York defence or the Leigh centre not having the confidence to push the pass.

I was surprised Leigh went for a drop goal with 15 left, and yes I know if that had ultimately won them the game he’d have been a hero.

Thought Matty Marsh bounced his try but then he had one ruled out earlier on which looked debatable. The 2nd Oakes try was in line with me and I’m 99% sure it wasn’t forward, would have to see it again. Overall can’t fault the refereeing, a few things missed from both sides and a very short 10 (again for both teams) but he had no bearing on the result.

One final note on the Leigh fans, never had so many shaking our hands saying we deserved it, had a good season and wishing us well in the playoffs. Very sporting.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game this afternoon, could have gone either way, luckily it went ours. I think maybe some of the Leigh team and their fans underestimated the Knights, but one of the reasons York keep winning these close games, is they do the donkey work and close teams down, and don't get enough credit for that. York defended like their lives depended on it, but then they had the ball, scored four good tries. Good luck next week.

Totally emphatically agree with your last paragraph, is it a divergence from the coaches attitude at the outset of the season when with their back against the wall the team was instructed to play for each other and be as expansive as they could imagine themselves to be.

NOW Duffy is in a totally different respect, he has got into a position with the team he may have not thought possible, now that he has got so called higher profile players has he forsaken those early season values in favour of a very much more conservative game plan trying to protect other than improve us on what has got us into this position, the evidence is as you say very little offloads coupled with a fear of making a  mistake.

Saying all that, I look forward to seeing McNally running right or left linking up with Kevin Brown, Brierley showed us from fullback just how much we do rely on Greg, and Josh Woods once again displays that he is completely contact avoidance an attribute not conducive to half back play in the Championship.

Remember Fev lost at York in our previous game, and I wouldn't read too much into the result at Mount Pleasant today. It must have been very difficult for the Batley lads to even contemplate pulling on a shirt again so soon after the Archie Bruce tragedy in what was already a meaningless game for them, they were also lacking at least 3 of their best players and understandably they looked totally subdued.

Ah I can remember a couple but possibly not 6. To be fair it was nice for us to see some good tries as its been a long time coming. Obviously Rochdale are in a lot of trouble and it shows but hopefully it will give us some confidence going in to next week. If the rumours are true and Hirst has signed for next year then it will be nice to have some grunt upfront as he is just what we have lacked this season with Fleming, Tangata, and to some extent Kavanagh been almost non exsistant.
