Guasch tells players how it is

Recommended Posts

6 or 7 players swinging lead, Gigot offered opportunity but listened to others.  SMc will be offered a new contract after saving them from relegation, winning Challenge Cup.

Got to say, if players aren’t trying for the club the they are cheating the fans who play their wages.

Deja vu.  At some point he has to accept there is a bigger problem there than players just not trying hard enough randomly every season.

Their player turnover is way too high, particular in key positions and they seem to sign a lot of older players.  I'm not 100% sure what the problem is, but lambasting the players every year when they have a dip in form isn't the answer.

The Club as a whole seems a total shambles.

Yeah, you could take some of those quotes out of that article and they’d probably be almost identical to his comments in years gone by. He certainly doesn’t appear the most level headed.

They’ve not really had a spine in their squad that’s not had at least a change or two to it every year, there’s continuity there and attempting to build anything must be difficult if you’re going back to scratch every couple of years.

Imo they need to a) reduce the annual turnover of players b) manage player contracts and movements much better.  Players leave clubs like Wigan (juniors/seniors alike) feeling like they still respect the club and were treated with respect and fairness. At least that's the impression i get. The opposite seems too often the case with Catalans.  They need to be much much more player focussed.

To many players who go there for a good life and coast along . If seems like they try now and again , and hence they don’t go anywhere

That's the impression Guasch gives, and probably believes himself.  The flipside is maybe the players feel unwanted and disrespected.  RL requires huge physical and mental commitment to play well.  If your boss isn't making you feel respected and you think you're being forced out, then consciously or subconsciously you aren't going to perform at an elite level.

This is a repeated problem for Catalans. Whilst Guasch can complain, he must take action to stop it happening again.

What is it about Catalans that makes, for example, Inu look abject there but great at Salford?

Guasch looks to be building a team around Tomkins, McIlorum etc which seems a better strategy.

He needs a quality head coach to build a quality squad. He's not had one since Trent Robinson left. When he sorts his that problem out then he could see his club progress. Perhaps he doesn't see the Head Coach as a problem.

He needs some quality players first.  The depth of the squad isn’t deep at all and despite what posters think, some of their back up players are just that.  They aren’t game changers.

Imo there will be a few good kids coming out of the academy in a 2/3 years time and that’s when you’ll see the team change.

Gigots pushed his luck and it’s backfired.

Interesting point you raise regarding Robinson though.  He inherited a decent side with, above all, pace, but iirc Gigot was in it the first year, but not sure if the next.  Could’ve been moved on by TR then, so history there.  I remember him coming back in early 2015 season and he was magic.
