Match Thread: Featherstone Rovers v Toulouse Olympique Saturday 7th September 2019

So it's the last game of the regular season and we're in the pleasing position of having our play-off spot already guaranteed.

There's still plenty to play for this weekend though, as if we beat Toulouse and Leigh lose in Toronto we will earn 4th spot and have a home game against Leigh in the 1st round of the play-offs. Presumably (though am not sure) central funding for next season is based on regular season finishing position, so there's money on the table too.

Toulouse have plenty to play for too as they need at least a point to guarantee second place.

Hard to see too many changes from our squad. Wellington Albert missed out last week, whether that was because of the knock he picked up at York I don't know (he did come back on towards the end that day). Squad should be out in a couple of hours anyway.

I think most supporters would have Albert (& indeed Wheeldon) in their first choice 19 - if 100% fit.

Having said that after the team performance last week at Batley who on earth makes way ?

Ryan has a dilemma but from his track record this season he seems to favour the man in possession of the shirt if he has performed.

I’m comfortable with that !

When you look at other (lower than us ) Clubs in our Division and how poor they are in matters of form and overall stature we are really in a good place at the moment.Ive just been reading the Batley forum and it resembles a book of ways to commit suicide.Of all the Teams in the play offs apart from Toronto I wouldn’t want to be any other Team than us but as a Fev fan , just when things seem to be going well something around the corner like an ugly Tax Bill reveals its ugly face but hope I’m wrong and hope we hear something positive about money coming in the not too distant future from the Land.

Dubious tactics employed by Toulouse, we did however play well in parts particularly in the 1st half. With 15 minutes to go and 8 points down we came back strong. Scored TWO tries , Ormondroyds try was a definite as I was set right in front of the ball. So off we go to the LSV as the result will not change.

Load of rubbish

We were absolute dross after going 18-0 up

King going off injured did not help but the game was changing anyway

Looked clueless in the second half only showing an interest to do something in the last 2 mins when we had a sniff

Try or no try we should not have been in the position we ended up in - defeats at home VS Dewsbury and Barrow have ultimately cost us a better finishing spot - not the ref or that descision today

Poor second half display after we took our chances and held a 18-0 lead in the first half.Toulouse totally outplayed us in the second half throwing the ball about and creating space it was like watching Racehorses against Cart Horses.King going off made a big difference but when we had the ball we made 15 to 20 metres at most,Toulouse made 40 to 50 metres with ease .Toulouse do make mistakes but their expansive style is a joy to watch.Another clean break by Chissy in the second half and no one at his shoulder backing up,how many times do players need telling to support him.Thought Chissy was the best player on the field and for Fev Locky tried his heart out as usual.

We shouldn’t be letting an 18 nil lead slip, our own fault we lost, Kings exit made a difference, but we we were struggling at that point as said.  We backed off for some reason, we had them rattled and another try probably would have had their heads down, Hepi made a big difference when he came on for Toulouse and seem to turn the game.....disappointed!!

I came away feeling robbed but having reflected I tend to agree that we let that one get away from us - yes I’m convinced Ormy did get the ball down (and Sutty in the first half too) but we’d let them right back into the game by the end of the 1st half and most of the second so only have ourselves to blame.

if you look at recent results we’ve struggled to beat any of our top 5 rivals so are probably right where we should be in 5th.

its on to LSV next week and see what happens I guess

Looks like club statement to come re: the incident after the game.

I saw a scuffle outside the officials' changing room involving a linesman and a fan, and then the fan being escorted off the premises by a steward who was calling the fan "disgraceful".

I've heard there was a racist comment directed towards one of the linesman. Appalling if true.

When referees make a couple of howlers like Dolan did today then they become the target of blame. However the game began to turn late in the second half when Toulouse were given too much space and time to get to grips with the game. A controversial decision to disallow the Sutcliffe try and the one by Ormondroyd late in the game were just two reasons why Fev lost. But the main one was the inability to be able to stop Toulouse once they reached the red zone. All is not lost and Fev can be proud of their season after a very turbulent pre season. Well done to all the players. And with a play off place brings us a bit more excitement to look forward to.

Poor game management and a lack of on field leadership cost us the game. 2nd half we wasted last plays and coughed up possession needlessly. With the start we had,  we must manage the game better than we did. I stood and listened to what little was said behind the sticks after each Toulouse try, honestly it was very little and offered no direction or inspiration, in particular the ones who needed to speak didn't. Don't doubt the lads for effort but some better leadership and game management today would have been enough to get us home.

Any news on Cam King looked serious, really hope that it wasn’t as bad as it looked

Looked in a bad way, plenty of blood, but I heard John Davies say when he came out for the second half that he was alright.

The Toulouse players were out of order at the end goading the fans .

They were not goading, they normally as a team applaud all 4 sides of the ground. They appreciate that some fans like the way they play.

Maybe they werent Kiggy. But they should have used a bit of decorum in the heat of what just happened moments earlier and it would have been best to stay away while the home fans were trying to fathom exactly why the try had been disallowed. Common sense should have prevailed on this occasion.
