DoubleD Posted September 9, 2019 Share Posted September 9, 2019 Some disappointing attendances there. I suppose playing in big vacuous stadiums doesn’t help. Lots of work to do. It'll be interesting to see if North Queensland get a similar boost to their attendances, that Parramatta did, when they move into their new stadium next year. Graham Posted September 9, 2019 Share Posted September 9, 2019 The 2019 season was dogged before it started with some players' bad behaviour in the headlines. The season also felt a bit rudderless - or is that just me thinks that. There were various controversies over for example the new No Fault Stand Down Policy, Refereeing decisions both onfield and in the bunker. Then there appeared to be inconsistencies in judgements handed out by the judiciary. Taken together these things seemed to put a bit of a downer on the season. All the same some achievements were outstanding. Storm becoming Minor Premiers again for the third time in four years. Newcastle Knight having the second highest attendances with 19,000+ Personal achievements like those of for example Cameron Smith and James Graham. Wests played in Tamworth and someone else played in Mudgee, two venues that only hold 10K at most. The Parra game in Darwin only got 5K this year. Also Wagga, and Sunshine Coast. The Central Coast games get 17K but the other road trips generally are losses. The Thursday games are dragging the numbers down. Take Wests v Souths at Parra on a Thursday: 9,807 Four weeks earlier, the same game on a Saturday night: 18,195 Another one: Souths v Newcastle Thurs, ANZ: 8,253 Souths v Newcastle Sat, ANZ :13,364 There might be another clue here.
