A lot of turnover for the NZers this year. New #6 Timaima Ravisa was scouted at a Fiji Women's TL development camp run in Fiji by the Aust Defence Force, which is unusual.

Hannah Hollis saying there are 50 new players across the 4 teams this year. I guess some would be converts from RU and Touch who saw last year's comp and wanted a piece of it.

10min: Chooks captain Simaima Taufa scores after a repeat set in the attacking zone.

Kirra Dibb goal. Dibb is a new recruit from Kincumber Colts in the Gosford area, played SOO for the Blues this year.

Chooks  6 - 0

Charntay Poko kicks a 40/30 for the Warriors.

Rule variations for NRLW:

  • 30-minute halves
  • 10 interchanges
  • 40/30 instead of 40/20

Now Georgia Hale try for NZers with 3 minutes to HT. Apii Nicholls converts.  Or should I say Constable Nicholls, as she recently graduated from the NZ Academy.

6 - 6

One technical point I'm noticing is the positioning of the FBs. Nearly every clearing kick is going way over the heads of the FBs.  They need to get more depth because they're missing out on that initial 10-20m on the kick returns. (compared with taking the ball on the full, I mean.)

51min: chip'n'chase by Poko then another kick comes to nothing. Maybe she should have kept running when she regathered. Forced a line dropout anyway and 2 tackles later,

Atawhai Tupaea crosses in the corner. Nicholls kick is wide. Warriors  16 - 6

After Brisbane took out last year's NRLW, St George have lashed out with the cheque book and bought 5 of the Broncos. The biggest signing is last year's Dally M winner, Brittany Breayley.

Try saver for St George by Shakiah Tungai on Amy Turner.

There's an odd flaw for Dragons. They are taking tap penalties unless it's close to the sideline because apparently they have trouble with the distance if they take the long kick.  It's definitely not windy today.
