Can't wait. One down, three to go.

We know what we're up against there.

No Ormy. Perhaps Bussey will be ready after the extra week's work? Bit of a risk at this stage of the season?

No news on Kingy, but if he's back it'd be a boost.

Plenty of speculation about the availability of Luke Briscoe or Harry Newman, but Ive heard nowt.

There's an old adage that says 'don't change a winning team'.

Let's see what coach Carr comes up with.

Up The Rovers.

Don’t think Luke is available- one match ban for sliding in with knees according to RfL disciplinary website

We can and should beat Tork, we almost produced the win in Toulouse earlier in the season and I think we are the only team to beat Toronto at home in the championship, @letsbelieve

I think we should keep the squad as it is, with hopefully the addition of Cam King.

Yes agree. They looked youthful and full of enthusiasm, energy and confidence. Can see us beating York comfortably,Toulouse will be harder but could scrape it then set Bussey on Toronto like we did against them at home when we could have won.Maybe Toronto will have last years Londons result in the back of their minds and the nerves get the better of them which we take advantage of and run in the tries.I know im going too far forward but what I have come up with is quite realistic.UTR

We have come a long way since the start of the year without a coach and only a few players.  To get into the 5 was an achievement in itself, then to take Leigh apart was great. We have a good chance against York, But to beat the 2 Ts is going to be one hell of an ask, but **** lad we can always dream.

Nobody's commented on the squad announcement yesterday, presumably because it's exactly the same 19-man squad as last week. So still no Cam King, which is a blow, though Connor Jones did lots of good things last week.

Presumably it's doubtful whether Jack Bussey will be fit to return from a long layoff if he wasn't six days ago, so presumably we'll have the same 17, unless Carr wants Maskill rather than Render on the bench. Either way, must be a chance that we rotate three subs again.

A surprise in the York squad, as with Kris Brining out they have drafted in former Fev favourite Andy Ellis, who joins Tim Spears and Jordan Baldwinson as ex-Fev stalwarts from our team of four or five years ago.

Can't wait, UTR.

why have him in the squad then what's wrong with beckett or another DR who unlike render can come off the bench

Assuming he's not playing (and I don't know that) he's probably in the squad as 19th man because he's a senior player who might still feature at some stage, if we get further in the competition.

Given the current interchange rules it's not as daft as it seems to have a back like Render on the bench. The reduction to eight means that if the coach sees one of his interchange players as a significant drop-off from the other players, it might make more sense to just use his three subs, and rotate at regular intervals.

With ten interchanges, a similar formula was followed by most clubs - three replacement middles and a replacement hooker replacing three starting middles and a starting hooker somewhere between 20 and 35 minutes, then those changes reversed midway through the second half, with a couple of interchanges left up the coache's sleeve.

You can't do that now with just eight interchanges, in particular giving Cam King a breather uses up two interchanges if you want to bring him back on. So Carr has tended to "stagger" his substitutes, trying to give each middle a breather.

Once you've decided to do that, it kind of makes sense to have a versatile back such as Render on the bench as he can cover any injury from 1-5.

rubbish not needed for 1 -5 if we get injury johnson can plays fullback and wallters/ harrison  can fill in centre so waste having him warming the bench

You haven't read/understood the post have you? If a coach doesn't feel his 4th interchange is of the same quality as his other starters/interchanges, it makes sense not to use him at all, and rotate the other three, rather than use up two of his eight interchanges bringing a guy on for 15 minutes and then taking him off again. That's why Maskill, and even Jones, have found themselves sitting on the bench for some or all of the game.

So if the coach knows he is only likely to use three of his four subs except in case of injury, it might make more sense to to use Render, who can cover 1-5 without disrupting the rest of the team, than Maskill, who might not get on unless Jones gets injured, or Beckett, who probably won't get on at all unless there is a number of injuries.
