fevnut’s musings: The Tingle Factor, Foreign Teams and Stupid Play-off names for matches

fevnut’s blog is primarily but not exclusively about Featherstone Rovers (obviously!). This week, as well as writing about our match last weekend  we consider a condition that should be put upon any foreign teams that enter our competitions and write about how stupid the names given to play off matches are. Finals that are not Finals, Semi-Finals that are not Semi-Finals etc.

Re: the stupid names... they actually seem to have fixed that this year (late in the season... they were still using the crazy names earlier on).

Watch this video, they're now called Qualifier, Eliminators and Semi-Finals 1 & 2. Such a simple change but makes things much clearer!

"It is our belief that it should be a condition of entry to UK rugby league that any outside team taking part should be required to guarantee that all players from UK clubs can enter their country to play matches. It should not be beyond the bounds of possibility to negotiate with their government for short stay visas (probably three days) for players and club officials."

That is most definitely not the responsibility of the teams in non-UK nations. In the case of the Wolfpack, players are refused because of criminal records for which they have not received a pardon. That is on the individuals and their clubs to negotiate with their domestic Justice department. If they want a waver from Canadian authorities then they will have to negotiate with Canada's Customs and Immigration department directly. The Canadian officials aren't going to discuss it with the Wolfpack and they aren't going to allow for a blanket exemption; that is contrary to Canadian immigration law.

Not to mention the same will probably happen with trips to France after Brexit, they will need a European travel visa at the least, which those with criminal convictions will be denied for
