graveyard johnny Posted October 1, 2019 Share Posted October 1, 2019 after going out on Monday night for john batemans birthday according to reports jh texted the club at 4am tues to say he was too ill to attend the show training session for fans before they set off for the gf and wasn't in the pre gf photo due to a virus, now reports he will travel separate to the team and be kept away from them but they are 100% confident he will have recovered. whats going on? mind games by the raiders? a genuine virus? or something else? How about that , and why right before a GF ? I understand his logic but at the end of the day he signed a contract and if he was a flop would have expected that contract to be honoured. Looks like a journalist asked the question and he answered it honestly. As is often the case, the published article is quite brief with just the "juicy bits" so it's hard to judge his comments isolated from the full interview. He also had a lot of good things to say about Ricky Stuart in the article and is extremely grateful to him. Either way, such reviews to contracts are frequent in both the NRL and SL. On the face of it appears he needs to learn to be much more media savvy about what he says and when as RL is reported on in a vastly different way in Australia compared to the UK. On the other hand, both this and the Hodgson "rumour" might just as easily be clever mind games by Canberra, that is my suspicion given the timing. Bateman signed a 3 year deal which would see him earn between £570k and £650k over that period. Now, after year one he sounds like he wants to negotiate. If it is an extension then fine but if it is simply more money because he has a growing reputation then I am not fine with that. The Raiders gave him security with a 3 year deal and I am sure 18 months ago he was delighted with it. If you sign an open ended contract of employment then negotiating any salary or other benefit change on an annualised basis is common enough. But if I signed a fixed term contract (which is essentially what sports contracts are) with an individual to work for a 3 year period for an agreed remuneration I wouldn't expect them to back to me after year 1 and negotiate for a better deal.
