NZ Squad named to play GB Lions

Squad as above

Quotes from the NZ Herald:

"The squad is also notable for the retention of veterans Benji Marshall and Kieran Foran, though Warriors' playmaker Kodi Nikorima misses out."

"Captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak was unavailable due to injury, as well as senior prop Jesse Bromwich, centre Esan Marsters and back rower James Fisher-Harris"

"There is also a return for Jordan Rapana, Jamayne Isaako, Kevin Proctor and Joseph Tapine, after the quartet weren't involved in the clash with Tonga in June"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What do you think?
Can this squad beat Australia again, and will it be too strong for the GB Lions?
Strong squad with Jesse Bromwich the only real top rank player missing. Good to see Benji in there too.
Getting quite excited for this now.
Watene- Zelezniak . Either injured or out due to the quota on players with double barrelled names
I’ve worked out you can name an entire NZ test 17 with hyphenated names:
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak
Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
Malakai Watene-Zelezniak
Michael Chee-Kam
Shaun Kenny-Dowall
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
Chanel Harris-Tevita
Nelson Asofa-Solomona
Jeremy Marshall-King
Jared Warea-Hargreaves
Corey Harawira-Naera
Raymond Faitala-Mariner
James Fisher-Harris
Henry Lealuga-Puhotau
Adding Fonua-Blake
Braden Hamlin-Uele
But only if they play with 16? ?
Interesting that the Tweet captured said "Your Kiwis squad for the end of year international" but when you click on it and hit Twitter it has been updated to "Your Kiwis squad for the end of year international Tests".
Seems like they forgot they were playing Great Britain for a bit.
James Fisher-Harris has had a great year in a hit/miss side. One of the best forwards in the NRL this year.
Fisher Harris would definitely be in the 17, he’s been immense this year. If he’d have played in a top team, he’d have got as much praise as the likes of Cameron Murray.
Esan Marsters would also be a shoe in, despite an indifferent year.
Thats what stood out to me that they only have 1 recognised centre in Manu. Is CNK going to fill in there? Is Whare injured? It’s such a specialist position, I feel they should’ve selected a natural centre at least in the squad
Maybe , or Isaako if Maumalo and Rapana play on the wing . Unless they go the Bateman route and play a second row there..
There’s no way Isaako is a centre, defensively he isn’t good enough. I’ve been really disappointed with him this year for Brisbane.
You'd have to think CNK will play there, otherwise they’re looking at a second row like Nikora perhaps but not sure he’s ever played centre
I’d totally agree . Just exploring the options as they’ve left themselves a hole to fill there . You’d think they’d have been able to find a specialist with their stocks
Whatever combination they play from that squad it will be a very big, formidable, fast, and skillful team, as we know the Kiwi's don't travel as well as the form they can produce on home soil. A series win for GB considering it is just the two games so that would be a 2-0 victory for us is no given.
Be very interesting to see who will be the ref's for the series, the Kiwi's lets say were accused of some dubious actions in the last series over here.
We want a flowing , controversy free series so logically Childs as ref and Hicks as VR . But if I had to guess I’d say Sutton as ref , with Sutton as ref for the Tonga game
A very impressive New Zealand squad. There is a big powerful forward pack, headed by props Jared Warea-Hargreaves (Roosters) and Nelson Asofa-Solomona (Storm), with the skilful Storm bench player Brandon Smith at hooker. This Kiwi forward pack will prove a handful for the British. New Zealand also boasts a group of classy halves with a surplus of talent in Shaun Johnson, Keiron Foran, Benji Marshall, and Jarome Hughes, who are each superior to their likely British opponents. In the outside backs there is an outstanding back three,  consisting of wingers Ken Maumolo (Dally M winger of 2019) and Canberra's Jordan Rapana, joining one of the best full backs of the modern era in Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (Dally M player of 2018). The only Kiwi weakness is the lack of one class specialist left centre to partner the outstanding right centre from the Sydney Roosters, Joseph Manu. The in form Canberra full back Charnze Nicol-Klokstadt may fill that centre position made vacant by the withdrawal of Esan Marsters.
Overall I regard it as a much stronger team than Great Britain's, especially in the light of the absence of the inspirational Sam Burgess. The star Canberra trio of Josh Hodgson, John Bateman and Elliot Whitehead, as well as the two NRL stars from St.George-Illawarra, Gareth WIddop and James Graham, will have to be at their best if the Lions are to compete with the star studded Kiwis.
Frankly I cannot see anything other than a clear and comprehensive Kiwi victory.
Marshall gets the call-up his season warrants. He's had some fallow years, but he's been a wonder in 2019.
Maumalo's a great attacking player, but has errors in him, a bit like Vatuvei did as his predecessor.
Thompson and Walmsley were incredible last night. They might not have the flair of Sam Burgess, but they make far fewer errors and massive yards. I'd be excited seeing the pair of them in a GB shirt.
Yes, you are correct. But absent Sam Burgess I cannot see the Great Britain pack muscling up enough against the Kiwis to compete. Sam Burgess inspires his team mates when he plays, and that inspiration will be absent.
I don't doubt that the impressive James Graham, John Bateman, Josh Hodgson, and Elliot Whitehead will all give their best in the matches. But the Kiwi pack is very intimidating, and I fear that the Kiwis will dominate in the middle of the field, especially if Nelson Asofa-Solomona plays (his future in the squad is in doubt following his alleged involvement in a brawl in Bali a few days ago).
