I find this opposition to be dangerous. these players are just an amateur level ....

They have got two Salford Academy boys and the Folly lane lad for the day. What amateur level are we talking...? Conference, District or pub ?

District maybe pub.

the spain team is largely made up of semi professional french players, some of whom play in the french second division. How do you want a team composed of Spanish players even reinforced by 3 English players to compete with a Championship club?

it makes no sense !

It really had the feel more of an exhibition match. Most of the Featherstone back division in the second half were from their reserve squad and were playing amateur rugby until last year, and they ran rings round Valencia. Acknowledging Valencia have only formed quite recently, they have a very long way to go if they are serious about being accepted into League 1 in 2021.

We often see suggestions of tournaments using 9s rules being used to help spread the game , but I'm not really a fan of them myself , but is there a way we could shorten the game ( we see reference to 20/20 in cricket , but that is still a full compliment of 11 playing 11 , the shortened bit is the length of the game ) enabling us to have our teams play 3 consecutive days , and therefore have a pre season tournament in Southern France/Northern Spain including UK,French and Spanish/Serbian teams ?

Could players play 4 , 40/50 minute games over 2 days , then another single game on a finals day ?

And if it could work , would you pay to go and watch it ?

102 points against mainly Fev reserves tells its own story and having seen the clips there is absolutely no way there is a professional club  there capable of a season in English RL.

Yeah this score is concern them and red star if there not the finances to sign large scale imports.

I think I’ll buck the trend and say how fantastic it is to have actually played this game....

Featherstone playing a pre season game in Spain against a team from Valencia....

A result like this doesn't really prove anything and acting like it does is a bit ridiculous. Valencia aren't a current League 1 team so why would you expect them to show up as L1 standard for an exhibition game?

If they ever got accepted in to League 1 everyone knows they'd have to pick off players from France and the UK. If they don't plan on doing that than they don't have much hope. They're not exactly going to sign these calibre of players for an exhibition match then a short Spanish amatuer season.

I'm not convinced we'll ever see them in League 1 but you can't really base much off this result. I did say earlier in the thread that is was a strange way to "introduce themselves" with an inevitable flogging.

It’s not that strange as it’s let people know who they are, and it’s received a fair bit of media and fan attention. If they’d played another Spanish team or an Elite 2 team none of that would have happened, regardless of the score. Seriously some people on this forum (not you Jim) are so negative they can’t wait to see the bad in anything, it’s a wonder why half of them are RL fans at all as they’re so desperate to see the game fail.

Yeah it raised a lot of attention. 1they couldn’t raise a team. 2 they played 150 miles from Valencia and 3 the score. All bodes well for the future

true they did not play in the capital valencia  but  played in the valencia community ( county)

although called valencia huracanes if successful they  will not be representing the city  of valencia but the whole valencia  community population 4.9 million

Yep you’re right, I don’t know why they bothered, they should get back in their box and leave Rugby League to those who know how to do it, and live by the M62.

Well it generates interest, and again raises the profile of the game.

Well done.

More like morbid curiosity, this kind of thing does the game no good whatsoever, it would have been far better to smuggle the Valencia team into the country and play a game against the bottom division of the North West Mens League or the Equivalent Yorkshire or Cumbria leagues, and still expect a 60+ win for the home side, it would have been exactly the same with a Toronto residents select 17.

So what though, they’ve given themselves some publicity which they wouldn’t have done if they’d done as you suggested.

If they’d played in the Mestalla, sold it out and beaten the Roosters with a home grown team you’d still find something to deride them for.

Valencia RL should take heed.                                                                                                                                                          Barcelona FCs first ever game. 1 - 0 defeat in a 10 a side only game against a bunch of amateur cobbled together ex-pats on a field in the middle of a velodrome watched by a few hundred. What a waste of time that was. They should have given it up as a bad job.

There’s plenty things do the game no good Harry. Gaining peoples interest in our game? Something that has been neglected by previous generations and sending the game forward via SL and Sky was the answer?

You are supportive of others ie: Toronto, Toulouse yet condone others from having a crack.

I actually thought better of you. Travelling to the AJ Bell last Saturday, sitting thinking what is this fixture for?

We could have gone and played Fev or Whitehaven, or Red Star Belgrade.

Next up Wigan, what is the point?

We're a funny lot us Rugby League fans, we love to create all these 'artificial' barriers or reasons why we feel someone from outside of the 'heartlands' shouldn't be doing something.

I mean, what wrong did this Valencia team really do? They completely underwrote the game, paid for Featherstone to fly across, covered the officials and Salford loan players, took the match to an area with very little Rugby League exposure and attracted a crowd of over 500, and will now prepare to take part in the upcoming Spanish Domestic season.

Did they take money from the RFL or the game which could have been spent elsewhere? No

Are they investing in Spanish Rugby League and continuing to do so after this game? Yes

So what they lost by 88 points, Bradford beat Salford by 80 points back in 2000, don't remember reading anyone saying 'why are they bothering playing League in Salford?' back then.

If the concern is whether they'll be able to compete in League One IF (and it is a big IF) they were suddenly granted a license for the 2021 season based upon a one off match, well thankfully if said scenario was likely to happen they will have played more games, their players will have developed, and as they have said all along, whilst there will be a significant local element in the team, they will buy players to complement their squad.  They also won't be playing a team as strong as Featherstone or Featherstone A in L1.

It is far better they play a one-off friendly, realise the gap between where they want to be and where they are, and have 12+ months to address it, than poor old West Wales, which didn't realise until Game One of their first season.
