GB unlikely to fly out replacement for Ryan Hall

Recommended Posts

What a shambles. It was bad enough to rely on 2 aging, out of form wingers, who are 33 come the World Cup, in the first place. However to then not have any cover for them in the squad in the event of injury and not take the opportunity to blood someone else is very poor.

All international full-backs should have enough pace to play on the wing, so Hardaker onto the wing with Bateman moving to right-centre. No problem, flip they only have two matches left, suppose R Grace could have travelled, i would have selected him and M Knowles.

Knowles withdrew through injury.

We only took 24 anyway.

One specialist centre and two wingers in a squad of 24 doesn't seem like a good balance. Especially when one of the winners has been injured for a lot of the season.

As for flying out a replacement, the excuse given that Bennet doesn't want to fly someone out who will 'go straight into the team' is a bit of a nonsense. It was clear that Hall was crocked on Saturday. They could have phoned up Regan Grace there and then, got him on a flight and he'd have been there by now - a clear five days to acclimatise.

Is it really down to lack of money? We really are in a poor state if we can't afford to pay for a flight! There are two games of the tour - half of the games - still to play!

Indeed. I am getting fed up of people saying so and so should be in the team, when in fact they are injured.

I suspect (IMHO !!) the changes will be, Widdop full back with Hardaker wing and Lomax centre and Williams stand off.  I suppose the more simple thing would be to put Coote on the wing,  but I do not think our current halves our clicking.

Lets not forget that one of the important features of the game is the wingers ability to catch the high ball. So either fullback could fit in there defensively.

A Coote on the wing would be one option true.

so with no hall, is mcgilvary gonna drive it up the middle on both the 1st AND 2d tackle now???????

Have some faith Johnny.  Hardaker will end up on the wing.  No chance anyone from Fryston getting a call.

Lomax at FB with Widdop and Williams in the half’s.

Id like to see Watts in the team.

thinking about it why would bennett want watts in the team? hes  well known for offloading the ball in the tackle, that's not the sort of thing we need at all, it could lead to a small risk of the completion percentage going down - that's just not how to play the game.

A cost-saving exercise for a tour that is going to lose a lot of money.

I'm not sure why we are so sure we will lose a lot of money on this. Surely there were no forecasts for huge crowds for these games.

Agreed, and does anyone know how gates affect the RFL’s income from the tour anyway?

whoever goes on the wing will be assaulted all game with kicks so for that reason prob best Hardaker, at least his name might get mentioned more than twice in the match by the commentary team unlike the last 2 matches.

Hardaker started his career at Featherstone on the wing.

Hardaker on the wing is the only feasible option I can see and he hasn't played there for the best part of a decade.

Absolute madness that we took 7 or 8 players who could play in the half back positions, yet no back up winger and only one specialist centre.
