Because it is not feasible. They are playing at home against us, though, and he aim is to play as often there as possible. The fixtures this year have been a test of the art of the possible, and trying to break even. There will hopefully come a point where either the international game is so wealthy everyone can play every week at home or away, or else teams like PNG can generate sufficient income and sponsors themselves to host games without everyone losing a fortune. We are already further on, but there is no magic money tree there yet.

Fiji by 10.

PNG hosting GB and NZ in consecutive years will be great for them, ideally they'd host a tier 1 nation every year. Same with France and maybe Fiji, we need to look after nations that can host an international and get a good crowd.

How is it not feasible? How will PNG playing a double header in New Zealand save us a fortune compared to playing the game in PNG?

Maybe you could ask the organisers. I suspect it is much cheaper for organisers and broadcasters to have everyone in the same place at the same time.

Fiji looked good, but Samoa weren't great. Probably a Fiji win, though.

Yeah, Samoa invariably aren't great, but they did beat PNG earlier in the year. PNG have beaten Fiji twice in the last 3 years,  both games played in Oz, which is not bad considering they've only ever won 7 internationals played outside PNG. Having said that, Fiji look a bit stronger and have the benefit of having played and won last week.

I think that is a harsh assessment.  They lost to Samoa in June but in 2018 they beat Fiji, in 2017 they beat Cook Islands and in 2016 they beat Fiji.  They are pretty competitive.

The Hunters are helping broaden their players' experience, whether playing at that club, or being in the shop window there and joining other sides. Plus players like Rhyse Martin getting NRL and SL experience outside the Hunters pathway.

And the less said about James Segeyaro the better, given recent headlines.

Not sure why David Mead isnt in the PNG team. He is in the squad but not the 17. 

 

Other players missing Kurt Baptiste, Xavier Coates, Lauchlan Lam. So potentially PNG could have a back line that looks like this. Nene Macdonald had a great season for St George last year but this year with the Cowboys got in trouble for drink driving and kicked him out of the club.

1 Johnston

2 Mead

3 Olam

4 Coates

5 Macdonald

6 Lam 

7 Boas 

Thats actually a very handy backline full of potential. Olam was sensational for the Storm this year, Coates looks to be a star of the future as with Lam. Mead or Johnston at fullback or wing, either way both are proven quality players. Macdonald obviously needs to get signed by another NRL club after been a naughty boy, but can be really good. Could be a nice slick backline come next RLWC.

They still need to develop some more forwards though.
