Should have been Grace but he’s not English, so he was never getting a look in.

Agree Grace would have been my selection. But it’s ridiculous (and a pretty serious allegation) to suggest someone won’t be picked because they are from Wales.

Read Bennett’s comments that he’s experimenting for next year’s England games.

If that's the case then that is totally the wrong way to go about it, Bennett should not be using GB as a 'experiement' for England, players should be picked on merit, although he seems to forget that with a few inclusions and the omissions of Percival, Watts etc

So what if Grace is Welsh...its GB! Coote isn't eligible for England but still in squad!

Im not shooting the messenger btw

on one of the other threads there is an article from the mirror where he specifically talks about experimenting with the half backs to make sure England had a settled pair for next year and the world cup...

Handley is a good call, and there is an argument he was ahead of Grace so maybe 50-50 but if the only thing tipping it is his nationality then he has gone the wrong way IMHO.

Handley is picked because he has the correct vaccinations to go to PNG at short notice (from playing there last year for England Knights).

Yeh that sounded a ringing endorsement didn’t it !

Actually it doesn’t suggest that a Welsh winger wouldn’t get a look in. I think all the half options are English anyway so it’s not as though any Celtic ball players missed out - Coote in fact proving the opposite. However it doesn’t look good for the GB coach to be talking the whole he was about trying to boost England’s 2021chances, even if just by having a tour with inevitably mostly English players would help that anyway.

Im not sure why people have such a problem with Handley, yeah he is no peak Ryan Hall but he is a decent player who has done well in a struggling team and scored a lot of tries in a team which hasnt scored many.

Yep, plus defensively he is sound and normally good under the high ball. As well as bringing the ball out of defence, all-be-it not as "weighty as Hall" but he does a solid job bringing it out of defence when the team is being pressured in last 10yards - better than Grace does in that aspect of the role.

As his try scoring shows he can finish even with a centre that isn't so good at passing.. a better centre and he would be much higher try scoring stats. He also has reasonable speed, scoring a few breakouts outpacing the opposition.

Some fans have short memories this time 2 years ago we were an ankle tap away from winning a world cup (or at least as being as close to as we have for decades) and this time last year we were walloping the Kiwis in a test series.

If ever a Team needed motivation, they just have to read all this.
