Before this gets banished to cross-code, why is it that league coaches go to t’other code but never vice-versa?

Because most of the time like the rest of us and even the ref's , they don't know what's happening either ?

Nothing like those pesky PE teachers that use their power to push their own agenda when it comes to sport:

His Japanese mother enrolled him in La Perouse Public School in Sydney’s south-east. It was here where he shared desks with future Australian Schools and Wallabies greats, Glen and Mark Ella.

Glen said in 2016, “We were about five years old at an aboriginal state school with a lot of white kids and one small, Asian-looking kid. Eddie was a little bit quieter than most, a little bit shy, but he was definitely one of the boys.”

Matraville Days

Despite only playing rugby league throughout their primary years their move to Matraville High School (now Matraville Sports High School) proved pivotal.

The football talent of Jones and the Ella brothers was noticed by PE teacher Geoff Mould who transformed the league-loving public school into a rugby gold mine despite a huge resistance of parents in 1968.

Bret Harris in Ella, Ella, Ella said, “… the transition to rugby union is 1968 was met with tremendous resistance from parent and pupils alike. The parents regarded rugby union as a ‘rah-rah’ game played by rich boys…”

There's just been a RUWC, and RL has been in the headlines ever since. This all alters the perception of RL in some people's minds, and puts the sport firmly back on the map.

I like to ask the “then what?” question in everyday situations to assess whether it’s meaningful or not

I wouldn’t read too much into that. As an Aussie, I can tell you that’s just typical Eddie Jones. Likes riling up the opposition.  It helped England at the World Cup as he managed to always take the attention away from his players through his provocative comments

True , I do like that about him . He’s the ultimate wind up merchant with that little smirk . He turned Cheika inside out when we won down there

Another Jones (Alan) did it a few years back, coming from the Wallabies job and taking Balmain from finalists to wooden spoon contenders in record time.

I never thought I would see the day when the performances of the team touring Japan, would be more entertaining {final excepted} than the team touring New Zealand. It is almost like Bennett and Jones have secretly switched jobs.

Saying that I really cant see it happening. No harm in a good story and free publicity for the game. Been a good week on that score with the signing of SBW and rumours re Tuilagi

In all seriousness though I am not sure what he would add to our game and players. Is his contract up any tie soon as suspect we could be used as a stalking horse.

He seems to be a good motivator and man-manager, but anyone hiring him would need to surround him with a coaching team to handle the technical aspects. That would make him an expensive gamble.

He will struggle withers that have the basic skills of tackling, passing etc whilst under pressure and don't make a mistake every other play. And then what will he think of forwards who don't need to rest every 20 seconds

I would take a thinking man like Clive Woodward over Bennett all day long, someone who actually understands people, is a brilliant tactician and can get the absolute maximum out of his players, the England win in 2001 with a load of dads army players proved that IMHO. You don't need to know league to be a head coach of a club or national team IMHO, you can have specialist coaches for the technical aspects.

A great coach is someone who understands people, knows how to motivate, is able overcome what's put in front of you with superior tactics and can adapt in game when things aren't going your way or you've had to make changes, they can identify leaders, can develop players both skills wise (through using the asst coaches) and mental fortitude wise.

Of current active sports coaches I'd have Bill Bellichick from the NE Patriots in a heartbeat, of past coaches in RL the greatest is probably Roy Francis (who would have been a 100 yrs old this year if he was alive).
