There was a DOS based game from the 80s that I played quite a lot years later. It was fast and pretty difficult to master in the harder levels.

Super League Pro Rugby was terrible (I won my first ever game against Australia) and the EA Sports one was very slow IIRC.

There just isn't the market for somebody to do one properly.

Edit: turns out the DOS game was Wembley Rugby League which has already been mentioned here.

Actually doesnt look too bad. Does it have up to date squad lists etc?

Haven't actually played it. Got RLM2 and it's probably far from as playable as the latest football sim, but I enjoy it.

I haven't played video games for donkeys years!

Hopefully better than the last Rugby League Manager game, which was awful.

Seems to have a lot of good reviews on Youtube. Has loads of Northern Hemisphere comps, tempted to download and see if I can lead a side from NCL 3 to the challenge cup final haha

Who for, and roughly when?

It was in Aberavon in South Wales (for Aberavon) somewhere around 1980 ish. maybe 81.

Can't check the result because my brother kept all the records and he's in lockdown in India.

Can you check it your end? We knew a chap, an ex-player called Jeff Woods.

I think we played up in Irlam later in the season too. Or the following year.

Ah, I remember playing against Aberavon, good bunch of lads.

Came up North for a tour, played a couple of games, including Irlam, we were all for expansion, & I think we did a tour down S Wales, but I couldn't go for some reason. It was another 8 years before I got to S Wales

I was on the committee of Irlam Hornets, and I remember them trying to hire the Willows for our game, as a curtain raiser, but Salford turned it down

They were really good times. I wish I could do it all again.
