Mazey interested in Rochdale

LRL are reporting that Andy Mazey is leading a consortium who’d like to take over at the Rochdale Hornets. Good luck to him, if the fans want them there that is, I thought he had some great plans for Swinton and should be good for Rochdale too.

Good luck to him as a RL fan, but presumably (?) as a Swinton fan how does he suddenly square it with suddenly changing allegiance to Rochale?

Maybe he is a fan of Manchester as a concept and is just looking for a facilitating club?

I think he’s a Leigh fan? Probably just loves the game and wants to take a club forward, doing what most of us would love to do in fact!

Interesting one because part of any condition of him taking it over is that they remain as Rochdale in Rochdale. Which begs the question as to why Mazey thinks that can work there but not at Swinton

Surely not, Rochdale is a lot further from Manchester and considering the respective sizes of the towns I’d imagine has a bigger potential fan base?

Rochdale borough’s population is 211k according to Wikipedia. Comparable to Wigan, St Helens and Warrington.

Andy must be off his trolley. He doesn't have the wealth of a Beaumont and supports Leigh. At least Swinton had a huge family tie with his Uncle Bill. Positives - Rochdale play in Rochdale and have Mayfield to work with.

Maybe the fact that Swinton don't play in Swinton ? , But Rochdale do play in Rochdale ?

Rochdale have roots, compared with Swinton. Rochdale have played in Rochdale since 1900, whereas there’s a good couple of generations of players who have retired or are retiring having never played for or against Swinton in Swinton. 

Rochdale isn’t a bad choice of club to take over. History in their own town, a ground (admittedly the relationship between them and the Football Club doesn’t appear great), a decent sized population and amateur RL in the area.

Rochdale are very fortunate that they play in Rochdale.

That is a huge plus for them.

And that is how they could with the right people behind it see a renaissance.
