Nice to see cluster of clubs from London and the SE.

Absolutely agree but not at the expense of other areas. The game is dying in Cumbria and the powers that be are doing nothing to stop the slow death of a once hotbed .

Nothing like bringing facts into it. So Cumbria hasn’t been forgotten.....

These 3 clubs do a fantastic job keeping the Cumbria flag flying , below that around 12/ teams struggling to survive, these are the facts.

Disappointed and surprised Wath Brow haven't entered this year given our achievements in the Challenge Cup over the years.

Any idea why they declined to enter?

If your asking local amateur clubs to merge you really haven't a clue , pro clubs is a different argument. However this thread is about one Cumberland league team invited into the Challenge cup .

No development officers, dwindling players and clubs,RFL shutting down the academy and as for the powers that be advising a pro club merger,I've yet to speak with anyone involved in RL up here that was actually approached for their views on the game in the area by this "extensive" study the powers that be carried out.

Egremont haven't entered for a few years, according to the paper Wath Brow have said the 1st round is too early for them to play as they only start pre season training early in the new year. Not sure about Kells

It does seem ludicrously early to be playing the opening round.

Would I be right in thinking none of the fourth tier (i.e. Division Three) NCL clubs are invited to take part? Or did they all decline to enter?

Given the size of the Cumberland League now (fewer than 10 standalone first XIIIs), one representative seems about right. The North West and Yorkshire regional leagues are much bigger yet get only two representatives. Excluding the 'A' teams of NCL clubs, is the North East League now bigger than the Cumberland League?

Didn't a couple of these 12 struggling clubs try to join the NCL recently which suggests they are doing ok?

A couple of clubs did try to join the NCL because they know they must to survive , both were rejected , ones got NO youth teams the other using 45/50 year olds to fulfill A team fixtures.
