Interesting about Championship starting at Christmas and finishing in the summer. Not sure how that would work with promotion and relegation

Haven’t we done that before. Seemed to remember the thinking was the team getting promoted would know early and so had more time for planning/signing players.

Maybe wouldn’t be that bad for the team getting promoted as they’d finish in summer and would have till January/ February to prepare but the team going down would finish in September and start in December?

On the different Championship season previously , Widnes were promoted in 2002 and finished 7th in SL as they were able to recruit early

However if as we see on the other threads about equity investment and end to P and R , then the lower tiers might as well move their season to suit better whatever their future is

The Championship idea is a bit daft really. Instead of going five months without Rugby over the winter months, the same people will then go six to seven months without fixtures. I suspect that no income for half a year or more just isn’t viable from a business perspective and is likely to switch the small number of fans off.

I’m not sure on the numbers of this idea but if the Championship clubs wanted a longer period to prepare for Super League, you’d need to fill the space at the back end of the year with fixtures, so the clubs can continue to generate income.

This is where the 1895 Cup could come in. Have the Championship league season ending in the Summer and then to fill that gap till the end of the season in September/October, the Championship and League One sides compete for the 1895 Cup, that way the promoted side from the Championship can start preparing for the forthcoming Super League season and then the 1895 Cup can take precedence culminating in a Final.
