First 2 deaths here in Singapore.

It had been ticking along at a consistent rate for a couple of months; in total about 250 cases, half recovered and sent home, the other half still in hospital. Then a big spike beginning on Wednesday, with 40-ish per day, and I think we're at 390 or so cases now. 75% of the new cases are people returning to Singapore from other countries, which was expected as the virus spread around the world.

The Mrs and I have been working from home this week, which was 'interesting'. Let's just say we have different working styles. Thankfully, she's back in the office on Monday because I'm told getting a divorce can be expensive.

In all honesty, our main concern surrounds family back in the UK.

That shows how vulnerable all countries are, regardless of their apparent 'success' in containing the infection.  The whole world will have to rid itself of Covid 19 for us to return to normal until a treatment/vaccine is developed unless we somehow learn to live with it.

Spotted on Facebook: Decided not to listen to govt advice because Sandra who lives down the road turns out to be a microbiologist, national housing advisor, mortgage guru, benefits specialist and pandemic expert. Amazing, since only last week she was a fulltime mummy selling bath bombs on Facebook.?

For those STILL not convinced and think they're being tough and brave by going out to socialise against advice, here's a former SAS Regimental Sergeant Major, Military Cross holder among many others and someone who knows what tough is.

Just don't do it, you're not tough, brave or clever by going socialising against instructions, you're just cannon fodder who proper squaddies would volunteer to be first over the trenches to soak up fire.

Oh, and if you do go out to an event today, maybe a barbecue at a mate's or one of those "prohibition pop-up pubs" I've seen mentioned on Facebook then please feel free to post pictures of it so we can have something to use on the Obituary thread.

if that guy from the sas hadn't gone out socialising he wouldn't have spent a stretch in prison for punching  FEMALE door staff - the day I listen to pricks like him will be my last

Just had a WhatsApp message, an audio file  from a mate of 25 years. the track purports to be a reading of a Chinese report on what they have found out about how to minimise the chances of infection. It's utter ###### but sound plausible. supposedly come from a hospital on Majorca or somewhere. File should be attached.

ok I will hold my hand up and I know I am gonna get flack for this (ckn) -yes I went to the pub last night ( it was packed)  not because I think im tough but because its what everyone in there chose to do- the young  barmaid was bewildered and ended up crying because her job was gone, closing community hubs is not the way forward this is just causing stress and panic on a scale that is more un healthy than any virus could ever be

Wholly irresponsible of you.  You know full well the reasons why, too, which makes it worse.  ????????

ok, bad cold remark may have been a bit off the cuff, but the abuse and name calling that came my way on this thread yesterday  from CKN (abusing his position as a moderater in my view) was not called for - I just suggested I may go out - I didn't even say I was , its gonna sort out who you would want to be in the trenches with and when fellow forum members turn on you like that then it shows whos who

There is a considerable downside to these restrictions. Closing pubs has a significant social impact in England, more than most nations. It is necessary and I think closing the pubs will send a significant message.

The people I would most worry about is the parent in a small flat caring for vulnerable (perhaps difficult) children. I have a nice middle-class life, even full lockdown would actually be little more than annoying. For others it could be hellish and lead to destitution.

Relative to that, closing pubs is expedient.

what about peoples mental health in all this? stress is a killer too

And if you bothered to look around, you'd notice there's a huge amount going on about that.

The message it seems to be sending to a certain group is, "so I'm expected to suffer, is it? I don't think so."

As an aside, plenty of social distancing going on but also enough food on the shelves, in Sainsbury's just now.

A bloke sanitising the payment pad in between uses as well.

Yes.

There will be people who become over anxious and people who are too blase.

As a comment I saw about this yesterday summed it up: yes, think about this as the Blitz spirit. Those determined to go out as normal are the Luftwaffe.

It is, and it will be a problem.  However, from the NHS doctor earlier, they can treat depression and stress, they can’t treat this.

To hear a doctor sh**ing himself over having to decide who will get treated and who will be left to die was sobering and showed what is coming down that road.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

I do have genuine sympathy for this, some pubs might not return, it’s a hub as well as a business.  It’s people’s livelihoods and jobs.  It’s also to fight something that is to many quite abstract, you can’t see it, and at the moment we have relatively few victims so not likely to of experienced it.

Nah.

Not for the people buying the drinks last night. For the owners and workers, definitely. It's their jobs.

For the imbeciles with half a brain-cell who have decided that deliberately spreading a disease that if left unchecked could kill hundreds of thousands of people - and who know that now because this didn't arrive yesterday but over several weeks and months - is no reason to stop them having a beer ... none whatsoever. None at all.

In seven days or so, people in their households or the friends they saw that night will start to have breathing difficulties. And some won't survive.

I hope that pint was worth it.

He is trying to work out what to do.  He only sells to pubs so everything is in either 9 or 18 gallon barrels!  I think a 9 is 72 pints ?
