"China has approved the use of bear bile to treat critically ill coronavirus patients.

The National Health Commission has recommended the use of Tan Re Qing - an injection that contains bear bile, goat horn and herbs - to treat patients with Covid-19.

But there is no evidence the mixture has any medicinal value.

Bear bile, which is produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years and fetches a high price in the illegal international market.

The move to approve its use has angered animal rights activists and comes just weeks after the country banned the sale of wild animals for food."

Unrelated to coronavirus, but Chinese 'traditional' medicine is a blight that the world could well do without.

A day chilling out. Don't care one jot. The memsahib and myself have had a rotten year ... to just spend some time without being mythered or hassled by family has been fabulous. Time just for us two.

Ok, I miss kids and grandkids, a walk around manvers Lake and a pint at the lad's pub.... but the upside to this isolation malarkey is fairly significant for me.

Every cloud etc

Enjoy. You've more than earned it.

Silly question possibly, but how do you moderate posts you're ignoring?

Two hats...

Member hat with the six folk I'm ignoring not interrupting my enjoyment of the forum

Moderator hat where I click the button that shows me "ignored" posts! And I grumble a bit more.

There are at least 80 universities in China dedicated to this subject. And while some of the research into plant properties etc. may prove valuable, their official status does also perpetuate animal cruelty.

Nah, you don't fit into the "deliberate troll" list. I sometimes have to stick ignore on because our views on life are so different and for my sanity I need a break!

Mods have to deal with a lot of "two hats"

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

We have some who are perfectly reasonable on AOB but then lose it a bit on politics or the rugby forum. And let's not mention the unwanted stepchild of the cross code forum ?

The politics forum has had me and John wondering why we didn't do it years earlier!
