This is good to see:

The owner of London's ExCel centre has performed a U-turn on charging the NHS to use the site as a hospital to treat coronavirus patients.

ExCel chief executive Jeremy Rees said an initial agreement with the NHS to house the temporary Nightingale Hospital "included a contribution to some fixed costs".

But he said: "We have since decided to cover the fixed costs ourselves."

Mr Rees added that the ExCel had always been provided to the NHS rent-free.

The Sunday Times reported that the centre, which is owned by Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), was charging the NHS between £2m and £3m in rent to use the east London site.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, managing director and group chief executive of ADNEC, said: "To be clear, profit has always been the furthest thing from our minds."

He added: "It is our firm commitment that we will not charge a penny for the use of our facilities, and we will provide the NHS with the operational and logistical support it needs for NHS Nightingale London."

Yes, I had wondered at that story.  The Sunday Telegraph reported it juxtaposed with the American owners of the NEC in Birmingham who were offering their premises to the NHS completely free.  Methinks the owners of the ExCel have been successfully named and shamed.

Ducati my botty.

Many decades ago I considered buying a bike.... i wanted a Ducati.

I proposed the idea to the memsahib who decided that my life expectancy would be measured in days if this came to be.

I drive a Quashqai!??

Back to the virus. I expected the worse today but the park is quiet on a nice day.

Twice in my life I've gone to purchase a motorbike ( this is after being denied a pushbike as a kid by my parents because " we lived on a main rd " ? ) , on both occasions circumstances prevented my purchase ,I took this as a sign

I drive a Land Rover

I can see where this is likely to end up. I was on annual leave when lock down started. I'd planned to go out on my Ducati that week, and decided against it over the first weekend to get some jobs done. Consequently I missed the boat, and obviously haven't been able to since.

This weekend, I've spent most of the time working, knowing that a good chunk of the urgent stuff will be over by the end of next week, and I'd be able to relax over Easter and at least get a couple of good walks in (given I live on the edge of the moors). What's now likely to happen is that there will be a ban on leaving home for exercise, meaning I'll have timed it badly again. I accept it's all for the greater good, but it would be hugely appreciated if those ignoring the current guidance/rules would stop making things worse for the rest of us.

I'm just grateful that we own about 10 acres of land, so worst case scenario is I have to walk the dog and do other exercise by going around and around and around...

Feel free to come over the hill and join the complete numpties that are going out at night using the A580 ( East Lancs rd ) as their personal racetrack , mostly bikes ( I have a very negative opinion of motorcyclists despite being friends with quite a few , I do let them know it ) but plenty of 4 wheeled dicks as well apparently

I think the government should announce a follow up slogan that if you need to use your car then you are going too far because some people are deliberately trying to wangle their way out of abiding by the rules.

File under chancers, see if we can getaway with it before we are found out and shamed into changing, along with Sports Direct, Football and suchlike.

I had a 916 for a few years in the late 90s early2000s I survived apart from my back ok, the temptation to live life at warp speed was always there, so I moved onto a Multistrada then a  Triumph before health put a end to my biking days.

Fewer deaths but a big increase in cases being diagnosed today. Possibly some of the increase down to front line workers now being tested?

And, without wanting to put a downer on things, the Sunday figures for the last 3 weeks have been lower than the rest of the week, and then seen a marked increase in the following days.

I believe only 2 deaths in Scotland announced today, versus around 50 for the last few days, something due to a change in how they are reported, so that is clearly an under-reporting of deaths, sadly.

Just off the phone to mate in Vichy. French police levying 130 euro fine if you don't have a properly completed attestation or are lying on it about your reason for being out.

In addition, this weekend checkpoints on entry to key 2nd home areas where they were catching and fining tens of thousands trying to get to 2nd homes.

Not trying to make light of this, but there was a 'medical person' who specialises in infectious diseases on our radio last week talking about how deaths are recorded for this virus.  He said that if there is a death, from whatever cause, and the deceased has the corona virus, it is classed as a corona virus death, whether it has any bearing on the cause of death or not. However he did say that most deaths are caused by the virus, but not all.

The first stirrings of protest about the lockdown are being published in the media.

I reckon we'll be back to work in three weeks or a month. Only the at-risk will be asked to stay in self-isolation.

She does have the same effect on some of the 15/16 year old's at her union club. 6'2" girl turns up on bike in leather, changes and comes out to ref them in pretty short shorts (i dont let her go on bike if she is going to be playing herself later and she ignores my comments on the length of her shorts)

She gave a lovely address.  The final lines were very touching: "We will meet our friends again.  We will meet our families again.  We will meet again."  I welled up.
