Good.  Cumbria is a bit of a hot spot and unlike other more densely populated areas it isn't having a field hospital built as far as I'm aware.  Why people are so bloody selfish is beyond me.  It's not like the Lake District is going to move.  It'll be there in the summer and the autumn and indeed next spring.

I hope the police really go to town on this and their message penetrates some thick skulls.

I read that the Furness Academy has been commandeered for use as a makeshift hospital.

I have just read that too, although the report I read put it at the bottom of the list.  Apparently 17 field hospitals in total are due to be built within the next few weeks.  The Army is doing a terrific job.

They should have thrown the book at them. Not because of where they were going but because of where they had travelled from. ??

Shamelessly copied from Facebook.Jane Raison.

As someone with a Masters in disease control, you can only imagine the sheer hell on earth that Facebook is for me at the moment.

From Chantelle who has impressively made the leap from bath bomb retailer to consultant virologist in a matter of weeks and can tell you exactly why the government and their experts are wrong, to Bob who claims to have secret intel from a secret government group on the secret programme of secret treatment measures that the government are definitely bringing in at 3pm next Thursday, only it’s a secret, but he’s posting it on Facebook so he feels like 007, to Steve who thinks it’s all a load of ###### and if he wants to wander round town he bloody well can cos he doesn’t feel sick and why the hell is ‘spoons shut cos his granddad didn’t fight the nazis for him to be told to stay inside even if pornhub premium is now free for a week.

I tried as hard as I could in my studies and in my work in disease control to avoid viruses like the plague (see what I did there?) because they are absolute bastards. Bacteria are so much easier to control and parasites are positively dreamy. Viruses are utter bastards (did I mention that?) because you can do almost naff all to them. To deal with viruses you have to deal with the viral vector instead. That’s the weak point for a virus. Its vector. Only in this case the vector is humans, bloody stupid, ###### humans like Chantelle, Bob and Steve. Viral control is about psychology more than it’s about medicine and that’s what’s scary about it. Giving everyone a pill is easy, getting everyone to listen and change their behaviour is a bloody nightmare.

The virus is just chugging along being a virus, it’s living it’s best life #livelaughcough. You can’t ignore it out of existence, scaremonger it away or become magically immune by gargling with vinegar, donning a decorating mask or sticking a live frog up your ###### and swanning round town like an immortal sweet and lovely person. You have to actually do what you’re being told to do. YOU.

YOU. You can stop it. Do what you’re told. Stay the heck inside. Stop thinking you’re an expert, stop thinking you know best, stop thinking you’re a rebel, stop trying to be a special little cupcake. Be a sheeple. Do what you’ve been asked to do. This is NOT your time to shine sweet cheeks, this isn’t your opportunity to over throw the system and save mankind. It’s your opportunity to sit tight, watch Netflix and save mankind.

The virus does not give a about you. You’re just a stepping stone, a host, a nameless, faceless breeding ground and launchpad. All it gives a about is reproducing and finding new hosts. Don’t let it. Break the chain. Shut the hell up. Stop spreading fake news, fear and gossip. Let the experts be the experts and do what they tell you because all the googling, all the conspiracy theories, all the spoilt princess routines and all the voodoo ###### in the world is not going to help you one little bit. This is not about YOUR ego, it’s about OUR survival. So act for the good of us all and do what you’re being asked to do.

Stay inside, protect the NHS, save lives.

I’m almost as much fun on Twitter @clerkingabout www.twitter.com/clerkingabout

Addendum:
Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to read my ramble and to share it and help me convince my parents that all that money spent on my education was of some benefit to mankind but I’m just a girl who has a little experience I wanted to share.

I’ve not even told you about the time I got the lab induced yeast infection up my nose, the time I sedated myself with chloroform during an exam, or had an entire, fully operational water treatment plant stolen over night, but, suffice to say I have a little window into this mad world we’re all stuck in together now.
I am not your government. I am not your health department. I am not the girl who decides on your country’s global treatment programme. I’m not Scully, or indeed, Mulder.

So please don’t come at me bro, I’m not interested in arguing with you because you’ve read how eating 4 oranges a day will give you a shield of protection like you’ve just had a bowl of 1970s readybrek, or how you have a file of secret evidence as to why this has been made up by the Chinese/Trump/ phone companies or your dad. I’m just here to say STAY THE INSIDE.

Now, Judge Judy is on and I’ve just treated myself to a Freddo Frog, so have fun y’all and STAY INSIDE.

The papers seem to be leading with "no end to lockdown in sight".

This is a subtle way of focusing on the poor people who are stuck at home, suffering horribly having to watch TV, moan on facebook and, God Forbid, interact with our families.

Not on those fighting for their lives on ventilators or risking their lives to keep the country going

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

I despair of some people.

A sensible re-directive therapeutic activity. A model of self-care I use frequently. I'm surprised the NMC haven't made more of it!!??

We shouldn't be considering ending lockdown anytime soon but... when the number of cases start falling significantly it is better to start opening things up slowly over the course of a few months, just enough to keep the numbers under control with bars and sporting events being the last to return to normal. Having an extended lockdown and then opening everything at once is just asking for a 2nd wave.

To be fair, the President of the Philippines just likes shooting people.

A manifesto disguised as a programme introduction. Guido will be busy today.

It is true though. My life has been easier, I might be getting a large bonus as my productivity is actually up. My bank balance is better, I am catching up with old friends.

For me to pretend I am getting through this by being brave or we are all in it equally would be odd.

Yeah I agree with this. Personally speaking the lockdown has benefitted me with huge savings in transport costs and commute time and in many ways has improved my quality of life. I certainly feel happier with much more time spent with the children. Living in the country lockdown isn't too much of a burden either.

I certainly have every sympathy with those that are much more greatly affected by this, including several family members and friends who have been furloughed, and fear for those that I know that work in the NHS. A good friend lives in London and his situation sounds pretty awful.

Everyone's circumstances are different and I am certainly aware that I am, currently anyway, very lucky in all this.

It seems to me, having watched Sky News, BBC News  and the 5pm press conferences and having read the on-line editions of the Guardian, the Mail, and the Times and Telegraph tasters, that the only people making an issue out of the ending of the lockdown are the media reporters. Certainly views on here across the whole political spectrum are against any easing. The media is stoking up an expectation amongst some that the rules might soon be relaxed, whilst at the same time stoking up an expectation that they will be tightened. They should stick to reporting on hatches and matches, something they are good at.

Sometimes, the lefty liberal in me is replaced by a harrumphing old Colonel sitting in a leather armchair in his club with a whisky and a copy of The Telegraph.

If you go on the main board there are a few voices saying that they expect we'll be getting back to normal 'very soon'. There are clearly people - I really don't think very many but enough to be a distraction - who think the lockdown is too harsh, too severe or, even, so illiberal that they would rather catch the virus than endure the loss of freedom.

But, you're right, by far the majority of people are in favour of ongoing restrictions.
