Suggestion - if you're booking such an expensive holiday, do it through a repsectable travel agency or get good travel insurance.

I'm very bitter today for some reason.

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

It is true though. My life has been easier, I might be getting a large bonus as my productivity is actually up. My bank balance is better, I am catching up with old friends.

For me to pretend I am getting through this by being brave or we are all in it equally would be odd.

Indeed Bob , from my perspective things aren't drastically different , I am self employed , but don't work every week , last year I did probably 26 week's work , so spent the other half at home , partly recuperating as at 59 years old and doing a physically hard job I do need to recover , so with the money I will receive from the govt I can easily survive , I don't expect to work again till late July/August , so have set a whole load of work in the large garden , stuff I'd never have got done , I do around 5 hours a day ( being being very careful from a safety aspect ) so as not to do too much

If I lived in a flat or without a garden I'd be climbing the walls by now , I really feel for them

Interesting to hear. And, the garden must be a Godsend. Stay safe!

If you go on the main board there are a few voices saying that they expect we'll be getting back to normal 'very soon'. There are clearly people - I really don't think very many but enough to be a distraction - who think the lockdown is too harsh, too severe or, even, so illiberal that they would rather catch the virus than endure the loss of freedom.

But, you're right, by far the majority of people are in favour of ongoing restrictions.

Adam Boulton on Sky has just asked the same question about lockdown ending to a scientific advisor to the Scottish Government . It’s just like a kid endlessly saying ‘ are we there yet ‘ .  Its gonna be a big problem I think , especially when we finally start seeing figures getting slightly better , and people say ‘ ok why am I still in lockdown ? ‘ .  It could easily start to unravel and then we’re back at square one

On the subject of inane questions , it’s getting very tedious having presenters asking the same questions endlessly to anyone who has a webcam and will come on the news .... countless clinicians get the same questions on the virus , and people who’ve had it get the same questions on ‘ tell us what happened ‘

I've not had a garden for years, and I have never wanted one more.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

No commentary needed on this... and deliberately not a political thread point.

Isn't some of this down to the lag in reporting deaths? If it takes a few days for a death to show up in the statistics then you'd expect the revised daily deaths to be higher while the death rate is still accelerating.

Awful and tragic story. One of many at the moment.

I understand why the media make these mistakes, because the four nations of the UK report their own, but they really shouldn't be making them now.

765 people died in ENGLISH hospitals over that 24 hour period, 887 died in the UK in total.

Not sure if something like this can be classed as  'good news' , but it's been reported down here on the south east news, and I paraphrase,  that the hospitals down here are coping quite well with the virus and the intensive care units are only three quarters full (good news ?) and that the Nightingale Hospitals are not needed yet.  Predictions showed them as being opened and quite full by now.

Found this in the Guardian, but its a couple of days old

I think they are all making a bit of a pigs ear of it tbh. We announce these random numbers, the scientists talk about green shoots and then we find out it was a record day of deaths.

We took the lessons from Italy and Spain, worked out their demand, and then added on the Nightingale hospitals.

London's Nightingale took its first patients last night.

Years of "fair winds" work done in mere weeks.

Cheers for the update, think I am just trying to look out for any bit of 'good news' from this awful situation.

Because the 'green shoots' (no comment as to whether they are yet real or not) will not be reflected in the daily death figures until some time afterwards.
