Just enjoyed listening to this near-hour long interview with Ellery Hanley.

Here is the link (as I'm clearly hopeless at embedding a tweet).

Thanks for the link - I didn't know about this. I'd even put up with Colin Murray for some (black) pearls of wisdom from my second favourite Hanley (after Jenny).

That does take some doing

Murray really is the patron saint of plastic fans, isn't he? I can never keep up with which sport he's a life-long fan of from week to week.

He popped up on darts for a short while and he was the number one fan of that ...

If it is either American, or something that screams "working class credentials", he's in like Flynn.

He really knows his stuff on the EFL show. Does his research.

Murray does overegg his fandom of everything but he is always professional and enthusiastic about what he is doing.

I grew up watching Steve Rider presenting RL on Grandstand. I am happy enough as long as people pretend to enjoy doing stuff.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I get that, and I sort of appreciate the energy he brings to the sports he presents. But there's always the feeling that, should a better offer come along, he'd instantaneously cut his passion for the old income stream dead, and flounce off to his new paycheck like a weedy Sonny Bill Williams.

Yes, that's pretty much my career approach too.

An ace interview, with best player I've ever seen up close & in the flesh.

I would say that though, as the first ever RL game I watched was watching my cousin's team Redhill (including Andy Goodway as well!) play against Ellery's Corpus Christi.

My cousin marked him out of the game that day*. ?

*Though it's fair to say their careers diverged after that.

A shudder goes up my spine just seeing his name. The king of smarm.

Here's another reason to dislike Rider: he was one of several East Portlemouth second home owners who objected to a charitable land trust building six affordable rental properties in the Devon village. Happy to report the trust secured planning permission.

I see Rider's entry on an after dinner speakers' website refers to his "charming professionalism"...
