Catalan Dragons TV negotiations

Does this question really warrant a separate thread? Especially when the answer is easy to find: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W9_(TV_channel)

W9 Channel would be a good channel, owned by M6 which earn revenue of a couple of billion Euro which is 50% owned by.RTL group itself.

Not much sport on that channel though.but a decent enough viewing share at the mo, must be.looking to add some live.sport at.the right price.

What's the potential viewing audience for the channel? Sounds like it could be a decent option for SL. Fingers crossed

‘The president of the Dracs even hopes that negotiations are advancing fast enough for the next home game against Salford on March 7 to be broadcast.

‘Bernard Guasch welcomed the arrival of the M6 group chain at the negotiating table: “I do not despair. A beautiful track opened on Monday morning, we are in good negotiations.”’

Tres promising.

There is 28.6m Households with TV in France, W9 is at a 2.5% audience share so 715,000 households with at least 1 TV tunes in and at least 1 person viewing so even if half the normal channel audience switched over that's 350,000 watching the match.

So that would be around the same audience as L'Equipe. This would be a very good option, let's hope they pay for it too.

Yes if you go for half of the regular viewers switching off, but potentially double the size of Lequipes audience, they are on 1% audience share whilst W9 is on 2.5%.

Do you know what the viewing figures for SL was on BEIN Sports?

Go on then gis' a clue.

Google Translate can translate the article, but essentially it's saying that if the broadcaster W9 gets the rights to show SL and Catalan Dragons home games it will be a huge positive for RL in France. The audience of W9 is much larger than all of the previous broadcasters that were in discussions with, they are one of the major broadcasters in France and no one would've expected it. Also, it would expose RL to a new and broader audience. Nothing is confirmed yet but they're awaiting the outcome.

That's the general jist of the article.

It's sky that have offered to film 5 games in perpignan to heip push à TV deal in France, and have offered the super league games to the broadcaster, so sky film half and a broadcaster the other half of the home games.

Things like this are really positive signs from Sky.

If the game is telecast by the new partner, W9, I wonder if they will hire the former commentary team from BeIN and Sports Plus, from when those channels had the rights, namely Rodolphe Pires and Louis Bonnery. Rodolphe is an excitement machine, and although blatantly partisan for Catalans, gives great colour to the telecast for French viewers.
