Both teams were pretty poor in attack and strong in defence to be fair. Saints created quite a few more chances throughout the game but poor handling let them down with several clear cut chances blown including dropping it over the line (and a very dubious call for the disallowed try). The main difference was when Hudds got their chances on the night they took them and Saints didn't.

So far this year it isn't quite working for Saints. Whatever it is that Woolf has changed it seems to have unbalanced things. A lot more play seems to be focused in the middle of the field (resulting in a lot of the try's this year being scored by forwards with the backs hardly getting a sniff). Some of that may be down to 4 of the first choice back 5 having missed games this year and not being able to field the same backline in any games, but that only washes so far with fans who have come to expect open, attacking rugby from a Saints team. If Woolf continues down a forward dominated team tactics path then he could well end up the way of Cunningham with the fans turning on him, but much quicker as he doesn't have the playing reputation.

I've just watched the replay of the game and as @daz39 said, the media should be raving about the Giants defence in that game.

To say Saints were below par is absolutely horse ****. They threw the kitchen sink at the Giants, they played with phenomenal pace but the Giants held firm, after 2 frankly soft first half tries, but Lomax is dead set the best halfback in the country right now.

Regan Grace put in some amazing defensive reads too, saving more than one walk in try by his fingertips.

The "no try" for Saints was dead set correct. Massive obstruction. 

And how does Alex Warmsley get away with walking off the mark every single time he plays the ball. Literally. Every time, five paces forwards while he flaps for a penalty.

Finally, and another chippy shoulder. Jake Wardle's try should also be getting massive raves. Getting talked about in this game is 90% club, 10% ability.

We finally made the front cover of League Weekly, but then read the report and it was all about how poor Saints were in attack and how they blew loads of chances and made lots of errors and how they dominated possession and territory etc

To go the champions and beat them in their own backyard for the first time in 18 months, after a 32 point walloping the week before and with only 2 bench players for 45, including 2 on season debut, it was a truly phenomenal effort and should have deserved more plaudits, instead it's almost made out that we were a hindrance to the champions, ah well, back under the radar we go.

Wardle's try was a thing of beauty, from Gavet's brilliant, initial offload to the soft, quick hands of Bruno and Sezer, to Wardle's catch on the run, step and pace to leave flavour of the month Welsby floundering.

Had Welsby, or Newman, Jack Walker, or any of the Wigan youngsters scored that, it would still be talked about now.

A great result and well earned. Unfortunately some posters are more interested in complaining about the reporting than in the actual performance. Just chill and enjoy the moment.

I take your point, but when the reporting is "poor saints", it kind of rankles, and is poor, lazy reporting.

It's not just what he does with the ball though, we also have a new found belief and a better attitude, Sezer's presence alone is enough to bring out the best in other players, it enables Gaskell to concentrate on his game, and his leadership skills rub off on everyone else

We'd just like a bit more respect, as Ant says, we should be getting a lot more credit than we do, Saints were far from poor last Friday, it's just we were better.

It always seems to be what the opposition did or didn't do rather than the Giants.

And we are enjoying it, it might not last but it's good to stick 2 fingers up to people.
