Scrums were a mess granted but at least the forwards packed down and pushed so at least for one tackle the forwards wren`t in a position to tackle . Whereas now the forwards just lean on one another and the loose forward just stands with his hands on the scrum peering around to see whats going on . Hull got one against the head in 1985 and scored. I think that was the one given despite crossing. (!!)
Man of Kent
Sunday 10 May, BBC1 2.05pm: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000j4wf ‘Episode 2 Challenge Cup Classics Mark Chapman looks back at classic Challenge Cup matches from the BBC Sport archives. First up is a West Yorkshire clash from 1973 as Featherstone took on Bradford. 14 years later, Halifax and St Helens produced one of the closest finals Wembley has ever seen, while yet another Yorkshire club, Sheffield Eagles, were huge underdogs against the mighty Wigan in 1998. Hull FC were also outsiders when they faced Leeds in 2005, and the Rhinos are in action again against a Wigan side boasting the Tomkins brothers, Sam and Joel, at the peak of their powers.’
