Driving through Adelaide today and the theme for Skippy was on the radio, brought back warm memories of me as a 4/5 year old jumping up and down on the settee like Skippy.

It got me thinking about my favourite  - not best ever - TV themes so here is 10 off the top of my head in no particular order.

Skippy

Match of the Day (the original)

Hawaii Five O

Six Million Dollar Man (for $6m would you rather have Steve Austin or a midfielder with two left feet from the Championship)

It’s A Knockout

Roobarb and Custard

Dads Army

Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected

Doctor Who (original version)

Bonanza

Just realised that all those programs are from my childhood or youth.

If I am honest, AT, I preferred the Skipinder the Punjabi Kangaroo variant!

More seriously, I agree it is easy just to concentrate on your childhood.  Resisting that temptation, I would add Barrington Pheloung's theme for the TV series, Morse, very impressive and very clever.

Banana Splits

Especially the version by The Dickies

The Splits' story took a macabre turn with last year's movie adaptation.

A very short opening theme this, but sent shivers down my spine as a teenager. Here the first pre theme scene, then the theme.

And this was a very underrated show, and great theme.

Not forgetting this;

Not a great show, but a nice theme and intro.

Martin Landau and Barbara Bain again.

It always amuses me why American programmes always show all the actors involved and just pick on to say which part they are playing ... as with Mission Impossible - Peter Graves, Martin Landau (as Rollin Hand), Barbara Bain, Greg Morris, Peter Lupus.

This post will destruct in five seconds ............. ??
