I was sad to read that it’s a bit on the wane and some of the teams are in financial trouble. I always thought baseball was a big part of Japanese culture and they have some pretty cool sounding team names. Anyone shed any light on it? The clubs are dependent on the financial well-being of the corporations aren't they? It's lost a fair bit of its lustre with so many players now going to MLB. I'm not sure about regular season crowds but the post-season ones I can see are all in the 35,000-45,000 mark. I’ll have a further read. I watched the Cards-Rangers World Series documentary on BT when St Louis had that unbelievable escape to win game 6 after trailing twice by two runs with just a strike remaining both times. One is the introduction of the designated hitter for the National League, seven inning double headers and starting with a runner on second base in the 11th inning. They also talked recently about realignment of the whole league temporarily based upon spring training bases with Florida, Arizona and Texas possible destinations. I really enjoyed last year’s climax to the baseball season, although it wasn’t a good one for the Cubs or Red Sox (who I have nominally followed since the 90s when both were rubbish). I agree there’s some big hurdles to overcome to make any team sport work in these circumstances. Any word on the Nippon Professional League starting up again or has that been canned? However, the entry costs of the hobby have spiked and Generation Y is less impressed with getting involved apparently due to high entry costs.
