He has certainly played loose forward and in his time with us, he kicked his only goal.

BSJ mentioned Frank Gallagher, above, but I never saw him play, so could not select him for my team. Harry Street was certainly a good ‘un and I think I saw play in a Dewsbury shirt, but I know I did see his brother, Arthur, play for us.

You may have me there - does it say that you must have seen them play personally or can we go from their records and attributes? Both Frank Gallagher and Harry Street gained four Great Britain caps each so would have been a cut above most names on this thread I warrant. Can I throw another name in for you then CF - Joe Lyman who played at loose forward towards the end of his time with Dewsbury and reckoned to be a main choice for the "best thirteen"?

One player who I did rate highly before his injury ended his days with us was Chris Welsh, a "proper" loose forward who we acquired from Huddersfield.

On that note, and exhibiting a personal prejudice, I don't think that we have actually had a loose forward in the traditional mould since Les Holliday left.

I can’t think of many “proper” loose forwards across the whole game at the minute.

You might be right graham but Wikipedia says born in Dewsbury.   Doesn’t mean it’s right of course.

I believe that the vast majority of Batleyites born after the early seventies, unless they were home deliveries, were born in Dewsbury, and are therefore the product of god’s own town - winds them up something rotten.

Even before then ..... the main maternity hospital was Moorlands at DGH until it closed

Correct Sir. Parents lived in Batley Carr and I was born in Moorlands, early thirties.

Now that could get a bit complicated with Batley Carr being half ‘n’ half of the two towns. Still you were born on the right side of the valley.
