Covid 19 - What now for amateur RL?

Recommended Posts

With the Covid crisis showing no sigh of abating, will contact sports such as rugby league and union every recover, especially at junior level if parents have grave concerns about contact sports?

In addition what steps (if any), have the RFL and BARLA got in place to reassure participants that it is safe to play when games are allowed to resume?

Although the RFL have received a government loan will any of this be made available to community clubs who may be struggling to keep their clubhouses open?

What about BARLA ?, maybe its time for them to step up to the plate and use their sizeable cash reserves to throw some money back into the regional leagues who have remained members of this organisation to help promote the game locally and also issue guidance and support to clubs. If they stand by and do nothing, then in my eyes that will prove that the organisation is no longer fit for purpose and should be dissolved.

As usual, the only news from the RFL is about the usual cash crisis of the Pro clubs, but without the community clubs there is no professional game, so let's here what their plans are, not just for the pro game but the entire sport.

Do we return to winter if summer rugby is off the table for this year, or would we just wait until February and start again, despite the risk of losing players to other sports or the game completely ?

Worrying times....

Mr Rimmer has already  said that the 16ml is for all areas of rugby league, including the community game, but its up to the individual  club to apply for a part of the money, depending on how and when it has to be paid back, i don't think a lot of community clubs will apply for the loan, give Rimmer his due, he has done well to get this 16ml, but it would be great to see BARLA put something back in to the clubs, they have a good bank balance, I think we will return to a shorter regionalised  playing format this year,  hopefully we will find out over the next several weeks.

In which way should BARLA give back to amateur clubs ?

Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.

Finacle  help in getting the teams/clubs back up and running, even if it was only £500 a club,  it all helps in these hard times,

Which clubs would you give the £500.00 to because a lot of amateur clubs are no longer member clubs and out of the clubs that have stayed faithful to BARLA only an handful have a clubhouse.

It would have to be the member clubs wouldn't it, and it doesn't matter if they have clubhouses or not, but if thats the case give them £250 as they still have overheads ect,

To me it would feel like paying for your ex-wife's beer after she'd run off with the local landlord.

The member clubs with club houses £500 and them without £250, and the clubs/Leagues who left barla done it for reasons that only they can answer, a lot of the clubs were sick of the same old people at the top who caused a lot of trouble between Leagues and clubs, both youth and open age, at present neither the rfl or barla are capable of running our great game, no wonder North west counties refuse to join the rfl,

We've moved to the YML and wouldn't expect BARLA to bail us out with any finance after turning our backs on them
