article goes on to state that one of the great enticements for private equity firms to join RU is in order to start a world club championship.

Our WCC is a joke and here is RU taking the bull by the proverbial with potential private equity interest and discussions of a world club championship.

RL hardly invented the concept of club sides playing their peers from other countries though.

Any sport other than football has the issue of anyone outside their own bube caring, regardless.

International competition between countries will always trump the same between clubs in League, union or whatever.

Well, there were few sports I can think of that actually preceded the SL era WCC with a global club league.

Club sport in many circumstances is the bigger than international competition. See all 4 major US sports for example.

Not that great club and international competitions could not both run successfully over the course of a season, a suitable WCC should not be at the expense of representative football either. It’s one instance where you can have your cake and eat it too.

As far as anyone outside their bubble caring about international club sport... well it’s not like there is any single region on this planet where RL is the single major sport of choice for spectators and participants, so whilst a WCC may not entice interest from the Americas initially, it would go a long way to increasing the profile of the sport in the markets RL currently exists.
