RL does what Sky says

Rugby League in Cornwall

Recommended Posts

With time to spare during this current health crisis I have been looking at old threads from the forum and found one from 2013 about the formation of RL in Cornwall which included the following link ...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/22715344

It appears all went well until midway through last year ...

Old news.

First team disbanded for reasons stated but a huge amount of development work going on in schools etc through a development officer. Saints are a big driving force there. Lots of youth activity which will hopefully create a more sustainable open age future

Any plans to get the first team going again?

Yes I think so but it’s a challenge in the South West with distances being so large and road networks poor, particularly in summer periods when large amounts of tourists visit, clogging up the roads.

Devon Sharks have made the step upto the Southern Conference which doesn’t leave any challenging opponents in the South West. The other teams are mainly union players giving it a go during the summer.

So I think they’re going to bide their time until their development work bears fruit and they can create a more sustainable local league

Good to hear.  Yes, I realised the second link was from last year but having seen the original news from 2013 about the formation of the club, I just typed in "Cornish Rebels Rugby League" and that was the main page shown.

I had actually seen the original story on the Oldham forum as it was someone from the town who was now down there helping with the club. However, I thought I would mention it on a more wider forum to try and get some more updated news ... and many thnks to you for doing so.

Interesting article. What pitch is planned for the new stadium, as I wouldn't have thought it would be able to cope with 3 sports teams playing on.

Also, are there plans for the Rebels to play in the Southern Conference ahead of any move to League 1? I'd imagine the RFL would look for that to be a requirement
