Thought I would have a go at picking my Fax underated team:-

1. Darryl Cardiss (Never a week used to go by without our Cardiss for England chants)

2. Mark Preston (Quality player never got a look in at international level scored tries for fun and some crackers)

3. Stuart Donlan (Another I thought was on the fringe of international honors while at Fax)

4. Greg Florimo (Released by Wigan and had his retirement season at Fax. One of the most quality players to grace the blue and white)

5. Henry Sharp (With Preston on the other wing he did not get much recognition but was really good for us)

6. Chris Chester (Top drawer player but never really kicked on away from Fax)

7. Andrew Dunemann (Very outspoken about how Fax was run but we were blessed to have such a good player)

8. Brenden Hill (Huge fan favourite and was better than he got credit for)

9. Paul Rowley (One of my favourite Fax players ever only KC stopped him running up GB caps in my opinion)

10. Jacob Fairbank (Only player im including from our Championship days. Workhorse and should be this years captain)

11. Mick Scott (Love that after Wigan got rid Maurice Lindsay was one of the first people he rang to remind him what he had said)

12. Les Holliday (Cup hopes went on his injury in the 98 CC Final. Ouzing class would be a good way to describe him.

13. John Pendelbury (Nowt to him but a great rugby league brain and all Fax fans remember "that" tackle)

Can’t disagree with any of them apart from Fairbank, I’d put Karl Harrison there

Tommy Martyn and Lee Briers don’t think either got a GB cap. No idea how that happened both quality.

As I said in an earlier post on this thread, we had Coaches who were obsessed with playing Loose Forwards at Stand Off, Sinfield, Farrell, Sculthorpe etc.

I think Aaron Smith of St Helens is very underrated. He always arrives promptly behind the player making the play the ball and keeps the attack moving quickly. He does this virtually every play the ball.

I notice when he is not on the field as the play isn't as quick. He keeps things simple too, and has great positioning.

Was tempted but because of the GB caps he had its hard to say he were underated. Thought about John Bentley as well as when he came to us Leeds couldn't wait to get rid of him.

I have no recollection of Steve Hampson playing for Fax. At all. Nothing. But I can remember many JB tries just like that though.

Harrison was underrated by many Halifax fans, we used regularly get into arguments with people slagging him off

I suppose one of the reasons that a player can be generally underrated is because they happen to have more illustrious team-mates, possibly in a similar position.

On that basis, I would suggest Trevor Lake, the Rhodesian winger in the Wigan side of the mid-1960s, probably would have attracted more attention, were it not for the presence of one B. Boston (with an E. Ashton inside him at centre) on the other wing!

Underated Players XIII

If we take the coverage provided for our superb athletes in the laughably described as national press then by that criteria every single one of them. So make up as many thirteens as you like. They're all underated, undervalued and under exposed.

didn't brian noble take rob burrow down under with the gb team for a 3 or 4 nations tournament and not even give him a minutes game time? not even a place on a bench? culminating in gb getting beaten again by oz with a very poor richard horne at 7?

see you later undertaker - in a while necrophile

Many will disagree with me but I thought Tony Iro was good value for the 2 years he graced Central Park.

A few years earlier Mark Cannon had a good 12 months too. Granted he would never play 6 whilst Brett Kenny was at Wigan but Bert was only ever guesting at Wigan. Cannon was released but IMHO would have been a good squad player when we had the Paramatta Prince.

From Fax I'd add Wilf George. Very strong winger who always seemed to play well against Leeds.

He might not have been underrated at York, but Geoff Pryce (RIP) was a player I always thought would have done well in a 'bigger. side.  He was better than any wingers Leeds had in the early 80s.

Ian Russell: Illawarra Steelers, Sheffield, PSG, Oldham and the Cowboys.

Not under-rated at the time but a player who I feel name doesn`t come up when talking about talent in the game.

I don`t think there wasn`t a position that bloke couldn`t have played on the field.

Remember once seeing him do one of those mini-chip kicks that just skim over the outstretched hands of the opposition, the type that lands about 2-3 metres behind the defensive line ,burst through the line, regather on the full and score.
