English super league ?

Recommended Posts

Should English clubs go it alone and set up English Super League ? Out Catalan and Toronto and go with the ten team we have left to form Super League one . Then invite ten other teams from Championship and league one to form a super league two, with one up one down between the leagues . 23 rounds in both leagues top four qualify for semis , with a double header final . How the regular season fixtures would work is that each team plays each other home and away making 18 games . Then like now the odd finishing teams play the even finishing teams for five extra games 2 at home 2 away and the magic game (or summer bash ) depending which league . Revamp challenge cup for super league one team only while super league two could play for the 1895 cup to create a double header Wembley cup final . For cups have two pools of five teams finishing 1,3,5,7,9 in one pool with even 2,4,6,8,10 in the other . Each team plays others in there pool once two home games two away . Top two in each pool make the semis. So in all you play each club in your league at least 3 times but in two comps. So you have 13 home games for season ticket sales . Thirteen away games , the Magic weekend , double header grand finals and double header Wembley final .

No?  Sounds like a step backwards to me

I’m not averse to a 10 team Super League if that’s the only way games can be played this season but not promoting clubs. That’s just storing up all sorts of problems.

It may be Catalans have to be based in England as, of course, is Toronto.

I got the impression he was talking about longer term than just this season

looks a backward step to me, kicking expansion in the teeth. definitely a no no. not against a 10 team league though. play each other 3 times, making a 27 game comp. one of the games would be magic game, so 13 home & away and one at Magic. leave cup alone

What about the two Welsh teams and Toulouse?  Do they get spared of your wrath or not?

I think we should have a West Yorkshire Super League. Apart from red and white hoops, what has Lancashire done for the game?

Tbf west yorks is a bit broad for SL, I’d just have Leeds in it.

Should we get rid of Catalans and Toronto and go for a ten team league? No. Next stupid question while in lockdown please...

You're a happy northern wotsit.... what is that?

the French are talking about there own new league , so Toulouse and Catalan could be in that . Then there's talk of a new Euro 13 league . So if we had Super league one , ten teams , super league two ten teams and then a championship of 14 teams with one up one down between each league .

The French have their own league that Catalans and Toulouse are already part of. HTH.

For me no, the league was not set up to be a rebranded division 1, it was to grow the game nationally and internationally,  and also grow the player pool,
