meast Posted May 22, 2020 Share Posted May 22, 2020 He's been with us for 3 years now, paid his own way for trials and featured in the U19's run to the semi finals in 2018, alongside the Senior twins, Jake Wardle, Sam Hewitt, Jon Luke Kirby, Ollie Russell and Dom Young. He's a great lad too, really outgoing, intelligent and focused, 2 of my mates put him up in their spare room when he first came over and he used to come to away games with us. Top lad! kiwis 13 6 Posted May 24, 2020 Share Posted May 24, 2020 Would be great to see Ronan Micheal continuing the tradition started by Brian Carney moving from the Ireland amateur scene to Super League. Super League really should be searching a bit further afield in non traditional places in the UK & Europe where the amateur game is now played. For starters, any focus needs to be where junior development is elsewhere - there’s a lot of amateur rugby played in Europe but most of it is at adult level which is too late. So that reduces the options significantly. Then there is a huge commitment from both the club and player to move over at a young age and take a chance on what may never come of it, often leaving friends and family behind. Ronan Michael has done this and deserves all the credit he gets but a lot of people would not. It’s not like they have the enticement of becoming multi millionaires playing our game is it?
