NHL teams are the best hockey teams in the world. The best rugby teams in the world are nation teams - Could you "buy" a tier 1 national team for that? Maybe... not the best comparison but closer.

A fair question, lets compare.

6th in the IRB rankings Wales, annual income £94m

6th richest NHL team LA Kings, annual income $203m 

Outside the top ten RU national teams annual income: diddly squat

NHL teams by income 11-31, combined annual income $2974m - they could buy aussie rugby from the petty cash tin!
