Community season highlights

Pre covid-19 things were looking very well.

47 senior players signed up, 1st team entered into YML division 2 once again and an ‘A’ team Entered into the YML merit league.

Last year we launched a junior section, currently have approx 30 kids signed up, with further plans to expand this going forward.

What excellent news, when all we hear and observe is how the community game is struggling on a lot of fronts.

Do you get many people watching your games?

I remember Goole FC used to bring a decent following to South Liverpool in the old NPL days (that is the extent of my Goole knowledge!).

Our lowest crowd last year was 120, max 350 and an average approx 180.

Entry to our home games is free of charge, with the aim of being a true community club.

Is that a lot of fans for the Yorkshire Men’s League?

You’re correct. Plenty of factors why this is the case. Rugby League has to be made accessible and cheap to participate in, facilities also need to improve.

That said, in the YML clubs are popping up in areas where the game hasn’t been played:

Us

Harrogate fire ants

Skipton Knights

we need to embrace these teams and develop them. So it’s not all bad news
