Why don't NRL refs have yellow/red cards?

Recommended Posts

The judgement must have been made that arm signals are enough to indicate 10 in the bin instead of yellow and pointing off for a serious offence deemed worthy of sending off.

They are such big signals that there can be no mistaking them.

I suppose that way there’s no faffing about with cards and maybe showing the wrong one in error.

Personally I think the cards are a good thing giving a clearer indication to those fans especially those in the crowd.

The other issue I have with them not using cards, is that when they send a player to the bin, they use exactly the same hand signal as the refs do for when a team is offside at the PTB. Both occasions the ref will put his hands up signalling 10 digits - as either into the bin for 10 or inside the 10. Very confusing, and even more so to the casual viewer. It just seems crazy that they don’t have cards.
